I picked this up on a thread last week, about using a piece of 5/8 all thread to compress the front springs ,while it partly I ended up also using the the jack and chain deal.

well I did learn something,
make sure your chain is small enough to be pulled bach though the sup. pieces, not to small though or it will break under the pressure.
also don't use galvinized all thread as you tighten the threads will strip and you will have a time getting apart again,I had to use a saws-all to cut it out in pieces, now I have to go back and repaint some of the parts.

hope this helps someone in the future!!!

Thanks for the warning.
I use coarse threaded allthread, as large as will fit through the upper shock mount hole, I think it's 5/8" thick.
I lube the threads and use washers under the nuts, a thick plate on the bottom hole in the A frame.
I used it on a 650+ spring in my 67 and it worked fine.

On the 2nd one I lubed everything, and used double washers with gearse in between them ,still had to use the chain deal but it all worked out faster the 2nd time around.

I used moog #6041 w/one coil cut off,maybe 550 to 600 lbs.
