I have a '68 coupe which started life as a bronze metallic w/ vinyl roof 327 with Saginaw. By the time I found it, the roof was off, it was white, a roll bar was added, along with drag links and a nice mid-1980's 350 - headers, Edelbrock carb/intake with B&M shifter on a TH350. I hate the TH350,and am going to swop-in a ST-10 from an '86 donor TransAm, which belongs to a friend. My question is: my car's power steering was disconnected - the hoses were cut, and the pump is missing. The car has been driven like that for quite a while. Would the power steering box from the TransAm (1986) be compatable? They look the same, but are obviously not the same model number (I think I read the first ran from '68-'79). If not, I'll have to either rebuild the existing one, or get a rebuilt unit from Rick's or YearOne. Or anyone have any less expensive ideas? I'm restoring this car to be a 'driver'- it needs too much reworking to be a show car (too many other cars ahead of it!)- Thanks for your help - Chris S.

Most say to use the newer box, but you will need to use the pump and hoses too, or you will need adapters, as they are metric. You can call Lee mfg. for adapters, Be aware that the internal stops are different so its not a perfect swap.

Check my suspension page below for steering info.
The TA box should work with hose adapters and a diffferent rag joint to adapt it to your steering column.

Try to find a PS pump at a wrecking yard with a male pressure outlet or if you have a female outlet pump find an adapter to male so you can use stock first gen hoses.
