I would like to know if any one from the old school remember back in the 60's when you could go to just about any chevorlet dealership and have a 427 installed in any model camaro.I'am getting ready to purchased a 1967 rs/ss carmaro body, without and tranny. The emblems on the fender says 427 however the numbers on the cowl panel says 396. The original owner is from california and he said the car was orginaly a 396 car, and he asked the to install a 427 under the hood.Is there any truth to this.

The more well know dealers doing 427 Camaro conversions in 1967 were Yenko, Motion/Baldwin, Nickey, and Dana. If the car is originally a L78 396/375 car then the shop just had to swap in a L72 427/425 short block. If you post your vin and trim tag numbers in the TAG TEAM section, the forum will help you decode it.
