Why would I want one of these vs a hellwig bar or addco bar? It's more expensive I know. Is it worth the extra money? Is it's advantage that it's hollow? What does being hollow do for us.
Thanks

View Full Version : Hotchkis 1 1/8 Front sway bar Joe Harrison Feb 27th, 03, 05:09 PM Why would I want one of these vs a hellwig bar or addco bar? It's more expensive I know. Thanks Joe bretcopsey Feb 27th, 03, 05:41 PM There is a large difference in weight between solid and hollow. A hollow bar weighs something like 7 lbs while a similar diameter solid bar weighs over 30 lbs-something to consider if weight savings is something you're interested in. davidpozzi Feb 27th, 03, 06:55 PM The Hotchkis bar weighs just over six pounds, an equivalent solid bar is 1" dia and 12 lbs. Not a huge benefit but the weight is pretty far forward. David bretcopsey Feb 28th, 03, 02:30 AM One of many old threads on the topic.... http://www.camaros.net/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=7;t=000395#000000 choptop Feb 28th, 03, 03:01 AM Plus the Hotchkis bar is a very nice looking unit, unless you mess up the powdercoating installing it like I did  . toycarlvr@aol.com Feb 28th, 03, 06:46 AM I don't know how the Hotchkis hollow bar compares the other manufacuters... but after I put in the Hotchkis springs and anti-sway bar... I find myself driving 'real' fast on the curves :D The overall drivability of the 33 year old beast is awhsome! Kybird Feb 28th, 03, 08:11 AM Isn't it hard to compare bars on one car to another without discussing spring rates. I have always heard that 1st gens liked more spring more so than more bar. mohawk Feb 28th, 03, 02:15 PM I installed Hotchkis 1 1/8 hollow swaybar on my 67 couple of months ago and it is lighter and you will not regret changing it. It is a different world :D davidpozzi Feb 28th, 03, 03:39 PM Here are some bar rates and weights: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/David_Pozzi/camaro_spring_info.htm#antiroll Joe Harrison Mar 1st, 03, 07:44 AM Thanks I am buying the hotchkis bar.
