69 350 coupe complete restoration, I am finally installing the 12 bolt drum brake rearend. It was originally a mono leaf car, I am installing 5 leaf springs. I already have the stronger lower spring plates and bought some new Gabriel Gas shocks. Can I just install the shock or will it require the extenders as well? How can I tell? Thanks for the help.

That should work OK. The mono leaf lower plates hang the shocks too low for some cars, limiting the amount of droop.
If your Camaro has 3" of droop before the wheels come off the floor when you lift the body up, you will be OK.
Double check that the rear axle brake hose is not being stretched!!!

In this same theme, I have a '67 that I am changing over from mono to multi-leaf. After reading this post I have a question...what is the difference with the spring plates? And if I need new ones, where do I get strong '67 plates since all the '67s had mono springs with non-staggered shocks? Can I just beef up the plates I have by welding on a brace? I need to stop reading these posts cause just when I think I am almost there...I realize I'm not! graemlins/clonk.gif

I'll Check the 3" droop these shocks should work without the extenders. smile.gif Hugger 67, 67's didn't have a beefier plate because it only ran mono leaf. The stonger plates just adjusted the lower shock mount height to allow for multi leaf springs in 68's and 69's. I would think you could fabricate your own mount if you wanted multi leaf's,as long as you take into consideration both shocks being forward mounted and the center I.D. of the shock mount is the same in respect to the top of the plate and that the plate has a hole in the center to allow for spring alignment. Good Idea

I switched my '68 from mono to multi...made some alluminum spacers for the spring perches to make up for the difference in spring thickness, used the multi-leaf hardware, works fine.

When I switched my mono-plate to multi-leaf, I also installed new shocks all around. Went with the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks, and there are part numbers for mono and multi. No extenders were needed.
