I am having some trouble getting my steering linkage back together properly. When I make each side linkage equal length, center the steering wheel and attach the linkage the driver side wheel points sharply inward (toed in) while the pasenger side is straight. I have to thread the drivers end links all the way into the sleeve to point the wheel (close to) straight ahead. All the parts are correct (moog problem solvers).
Could the pitman arm have been installed improperly? I have not changed it, but the previous owner claimed to have done so and it looks very new. I also checked the center link for "center" when the steering wheel is straight and it appears to be slightly offset to the drivers side. Centering the center link (eyeballing it)makes the steering wheel about 1/2 turn off to the passenger side. Connecting the links at this point still requires the drivers end links to be threaded in almost all the way.
The car was driving well before the rebuild (straight) but was leaning to the driver side slightly. I discovered that the drivers lower arm was bent and the frame bracket was slotted to accomodate the bend in addition to worn out bushings. I have since repaired the frame (all bolt holes line up with each other front and back for the arm- I slid a steel rod through all the holes). Replaced all the bushings, put in a new lower arm, springs etc.
How do I fix this misalignment? What could be the problem: bent frame, poor adjustments elsewhere, bad parts? Help! http://www.camaros.net/forum/eek.gif
