I've got a question that I haven't found an answer for. A guy I work with has a street rod with a 70 Nova front subframe. He was having strange handling problems, so he went to have it aligned. Twice. The second time the guy said it was perfect (I don't know the specs), but he adjusted the part on top of the box, the jam nut with the set screw. Now my coworker tells me it's a night and day difference in the way his steering feels/works. So now my question; what is that? I've never messed with that. Is it a preload adjustment on the steering gear?

Yes,
The GM manual covers how to adjust it.
Pretty neat, those manuals, lots of stuff in them.

its called the over-center adjustment.
Your moving the thicker part of the ovel shaped gear teeth closer togather.
