Does anybody know if there is way to visually distinguish a BB from a SB front spring while they're still on the car? Is the coil count, or the wire diameter different? I dropped the engine and trans.(SB) in my basket case project, and the front end seems to set very high. The car was originally a 327-210. I'm just wondering if one of the previous "restorers" swapped out the front springs to big block.

I do know the COPO "HQ" big block springs have a different coil count as I have a pair in the garage. The small block springs do have a different coil count. How to I.D. them in the car is a different story. I would start with measuring the ride ht. and comparing it to the figures in the factory assy manual. If it is high, you have the wrong spring what ever it is. Too low could be just worn out so it would be hard to I.D. them but either way, they gotta come out right?

They will ride high if you tourqe the lower a arm before the car sits on the ground... it will also settle out a tad over time

All of the bolts are loose.
Yes, they will have to come out but......I didn't want to hear that. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif I've had this front end apart three times now for various reasons. Recon I'll just go with some Trick springs from Moroso. (Unless someone knows of a better spring option for a drag race only car)

I had these springs in my small block car for over 20 years. They ride a tad higher than stock but not much. The engine they were designed for was an all aluminum big block so they don't ride as high as regular big block springs. I probably will sell them some day. I just don't have time to deal with it right now. I replaced all 4 springs at the same time.

P.S. - I even have one of the original "HQ" spring tags to go with them! http://www.camaros.net/forum/cool.gif
