I'm fixing to tear into a steering sector on a 72 camaro. It's got a pitman shaft that got twisted on the end do to a hit and run.The offending vehicle hit the driver side wheel and fender.I cant find any numbers inked on the top near the adjusting screw as mentioned in other threads I've read. Is there any other way to tell which gear I've got? Be good to know before I go to see mister "Goodwrench" !!!!! Is there any body that sells parts on the "Web"? Thanks in advance,CJ

My hunch is, you will spend more for the parts than just sending it off to be rebuilt. If it's a power steering box, consider gettimg an AGR or similar box with higher effort valving and faster ratio.
I have a ratio checking method on my page below.

There was only one gear available in 1972 for your Camaro, (if you think that you have the original gear). That gear was a variable ratio (16:1 on center; 13:1 at full lock). The steering effort should be quite light.
You would guess that you would want a new valve (for higher effort)as well as a new pitman shaft and a new rack and wormshaft if you want to go to a 12.7:1 fast ratio. By the time you get all done purchasing the parts, you probably would be better off with a new gear.
This paper may be of some help:
