I am in the process of fitting a Cobra hydroboost and decided to go ahead and run new hard lines to clean up the engine compartment.

I am going to use -3 SS hard lines and AN fittings. Is it OK to use aluminum nuts/sleeves and adapters in the brake system? I have noticed that most of the brake adapters are steel, but it seems the aluminum should be fine?

Thanks.

No, use SS nuts on the SS lines. You will also need to anneal the tubing before bending/flaring into a double flare so the tubing won't split. You could even add the flare reinforcements before flaring.

DON'T FORGET THE NUT BEFORE FLARING !!!!!!!

If a sealing problem about the flare nut arises after installing new tubing, back off the nut, add a drop of oil on the backside of the flare, retighten. Leak gone.

Good luck.........

I thought you only single flaired stainless 37deg.(AN) because it will crack if you double flare?

I been reading Carroll Smith's "Nuts, Bolts, and Fasteners and Plumbing". It has alot of good information

Single flare with SS is fine. Cut the tube with a hacksaw and dress with a file. Bevel the ID with a countersink and the OD with a file.

Use SS nuts and sleeves.

For the price and hassle it's almost worth it to run Aeroquip teflon hose and fittings for the whole job.

If you are running a power steering box in the car you will need -6 lines. -3 is way too small.

Order of installantion:

Pump-HB inlet-HB outlet-PS box-pump return.

Run your HB return all the way to reservoir if possible. If you try to T into the PS box return too close the the box it will backfeed into the HB return and lightly apply the brakes.

Using the Cobra return and output lines worked best for me. Weld-on fittings are avilable from Aeroquip.
