Is it possible to tell if a subframe is "square" after it has been removed from the car? This is a 69 Camaro. Can you cross measure (left rear to front right etc.) from critical points like rear body mount holes to front A arm mount holes, to determine squarenesss? Or were these frames even designed to be exactly square? If they were does anyone know what the tolerance for error would be? On mine, when I cross measure from body mounts to control arm mounting holes I get a half inch difference. Is my frame tweaked? Is this within acceptable tolerance for 1969 technology or am I being Anal?

I wonder about this too. I am considering pulling the front sub on my '68 this summer and was going to try to see if it is at all out of spec. The car was in a fender bender previously and I wonder about the frame being ok. One A arm is shimmed a bit farther than the other.

I would be more concerned with the lower a-arm mounting holes being square with the back mounting holes because you would want the lower a-arms square with the car and you can adjust the upper a-arms. Just my option.

Good question. Personally I don't think 1/2" is enough to worry about. When installing it, however, I would get the cross measurements from the front of the subframe to a convenient body point equal. Then, the suspension end of the sub would be square to the rest of the car. I have an extra frame at home. I'll try to pull a measurement.

Thanks jcdubs, got your pics. Is that from an assembly manual or what? Should be tremendous help. Just finished applying POR15 to subframe and A arms. Took me almost 5 hours start to finish. Seems like an awesome product. It looks great. I used the new semi gloss. After all that work I hope it's square.

Hey boodlefoof,
Brainerd is a beautiful area. I'm about 50 minutes from there. It's supposed to spring this week, but it's about as cold as january and lots of snow storms this month. Can't wait to get out cruisin.

Thanks to jcdubs e-mail of a diagram subframe dimensional specs I now know that I didn't waste all those hours I spent blasting and finishing (POR15) my subframe. All measurements match the spec sheet he sent. Thanks again. Oh yeah, I'm really impressed with POR15. What's in that stuff anyway. It's like liquid rock.
