I tried to search and couldn't find what I was looking for. Is it possible to adapt a 4th gen brake set up to a first gen with a 12 bolt? If so, how much fabrication is involved. I can get a 4th gen set up for $150 so I thought it might be worth trying. Thanks for your time and any info you can share. - John

Hi John, you should be able to find tons on the subject here in this forum, use a few different search strings like "big brakes", "12" brakes", LS1 brakes" etc. In a nutshell the '98-'02 fronts are perfered over the '93-'97s as they are the same as vette C4 I believe (someone pipe up if I got that wrong). Then for ease of fitting the e-brake assembly to a 1st gen the '93-'97 rears are the perfered choice.

Find a thread with a link to David Pozzi's site and you will find info and links to others that have done the conversion and where to get adapter brackets...

In a nutshell (may not be complete)
Fronts:
1> 1st gen drum or disc spindles
2> drum hubs with the outer circumfrence turned to fit the the hat of the rotor and longer studs.
3> adapter plate
4> rotors
5> calipers and baskets
6> brake hoses
7> adj prop valve

Rears:
1> axle flanges with the outer circumfrence turned to fit the the hat of the rotor and longer studs.
3> adapter plate
4> rotors
5> calipers and baskets
6> brake hoses

Of course there is a lot of hardware left out above and a master cyl and booster and such.

I'm working on something for the tech reference area of TC and will be featuring a conversion using a C5 kit from www.touring-classics.com (http://www.touring-classics.com) I'm hoping the information I put together will help those wanting to piece together big brakes as well as those using a kit.

Thanks Dennis. I will try again with the search topics you suggested. I'm excited if I can get it all working for relatively little money.

I should have thought about Torkers site, good call Carl. By the way I know I still have your tools Carl, I'll try to get them in the mail since I'm done with them... graemlins/clonk.gif John - here's David's site... http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/David_Pozzi/12_corvette_brakes_on_fgen.htm
