Has anybody ever used a Master Power Brakes electric vacuum pump to obtain full vacuum pressure for power brakes with a cam too big for the street?

What were the results?

Brad,

I've used one on a couple of cars. They work great but are noisy. Generally you don't hear them if the cars running though.

They are a factory GM pump from something; what I don't know. It has a Delco #5048679 on it. It would be nice to know as you could save a bunch of money buying a good used one from an auto wrecker.

Thanks for the advice. It seems only MP Brakes sells it new. I figured it would be a hot rod type item, but only MP has it based on my research. I'll give it a try.

There is definately one (of more) available from GM. I had researched this awhile back and found a GM number. GM installed these on some 1980s vehicles. I'll try to find what I had, but try an internet search on metacrawler looking up vacuum pump & brakes.

Thanks. Don't try a search on Google under "electric vacuum pump"... unless you need some male enhancement. It is amazing how many products exist for THAT.

That GM part number is 22034995. However, I just found out that part number has been discontinued. But there might be some still left out there. The good guy price should be around $180.

Thanks for the great info. I am looking into it this afternoon. I think MP Brakes wants about $ 350.00 for it. I do not have time to scour the junkyards so I may hjave to paty retail (Hate that).

The A/C Delco equivalent part number to the one in that article is 215-119.

My buddy checked a locator and the following dealers apparently show the GM part in stock (maybe in the A/C Delco part number?):

Harms Auto Supply, Indianapolis, IN
800-382-1234

Burt greenwald Chevy, Akron, OH
800-362-9650

Beatty Chevy, Knoxville, TN
800-982-1435

T/A Distributors, MD
800-362-4999

Thanks again. I'll give it a try. I wish I had paralegals as efficient as you. I'll keep you posted. My car is in infoxchange at 67 GS Camaro.

Any pictures of yours online?

I occasionally pop over from Team Chevelle.

I've got 2 68 Chevelles, one convertible and a hardtop. I'm planning on posting pictures on photopoint soon. Hope your not disappointed that I don't own a Camaro, but I have had 2 and I help my buddies work on theirs.

Please. All I really want is an 70 SS396 with cowl and 4-speed. Passed up a great 69 Chevelle SS last year and still kicking myself.

I have a 65 resto-mod Mustang as well that is flawless and nasty.

If it moves, I'm interested. No a pure Camarophile by any stroke of the imagination.

Everything I own is for sale. What were you looking for? Including a 1969 Corvette 427 Big Block Engine.
