Here goes, and I appreciate your input as it is a subject I know little.

For years I held the car off the tires with big block springs and air shocks. since switching to the LT1 its too high.

Is purchasing coil springs just a WAG?
Is there any way to find out what I actually have and go from there to find a set that will lower it two inches?

why not just chop the springs you have now? if they are big block springs, they will make the car handle better than small block springs, due to the higher rate.
do a search on how to do this. it has been covered in great detail.

cut 1 coil off the big block springs. It will sit about 2 inches lower. I did it to mine, which was sitting at stock height.
