Any one have any experiences with the 80-85 caddy seville rear discs on a first gen? I know there are complete kits out there for sale but was wondering how well it works.

Does the e-brake hold well? I have stock gm discs up front on my 67 and want to install rear discs. The popular baer track/touring setup is nice but since I already have discs up front all I need is a rear setup,disc/disc master and prop valve.

Thanks in advance, Ray

If you do a search on "Cadillac" you'll come up with a lot of information. Basically, they work, the E brake is fine (I ended up using Cadillac cables), but they can be difficult to bleed (particularly if you use an S10 MC). If you have staggered shocks you may also have a problem mounting them. Finally, you should check out the relative piston sizes to make sure they'll work with your front disks. (I have LS1 front calipers with mine.) Again, there should be lots of information if you do a search.

The preferred setup these days seems to be rear brakes off a late model F body with an integrated E brake. I have a set in the garage waiting to try.

If you want more info, feel free to email me.

Rayzor,

I have 77-79 Seville rear discs on my 64 Nova. I drive this car daily. I had custom e-brake cables made, they work fine. I used 81 Trans Am rotors. I had to redrill the caliper mounts to "clock" them correctly to fit. I am happy overall. Any more questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Mike I know about the late model f-body calipers but I think they require a quick take up master cyl. I dont think that master would work with my front brake setup (gm single piston from 2nd gen camaro or chevelle I think).

If I go with the newer pbr I think I would have to get all new brakes on 4 corners in addition to the special master.Would be nice but funds are getting low due to my engine/trans/paint job etc.. :(

Tim I have non staggered 67 camaro so it would be a direct bolt on.(except i may need to machine the outer flange of my axles down a bit)

Matt's classic has the complete kit with e-brake cables for $549.

Just wanted to get some feedback first. Thanks again!

Thanks pdq67! Matt's kit is about $50 more but includes e-brake cables. The websites did help me identify what applictaion/donor car my front discs were from. Something I've been trying to find out. Thanks.

Rayzor,

You are right, you have to machine the axle hub about .008-.010. I'm a machinist, it took about 5 minutes in a lathe. I also installed longer wheel studs. I used junkyard parts and with the custom e-brake cables have about $200 in the rear brakes.
