View Full Version : bushings
69camaroralleygreen Feb 26th, 03, 05:55 PM whats up camaro guys need some input, im ready to buy bushings for my subframe and stock upper and lower control arms im replacing 100 percent of the front end parts what do you suggest for bushings i was looking at pst they sell the whole complete kit, should i buy the rubber stock stuff or go poly not to concerned about the price and i was thinking about hotchkis springs thanks mike
supv26 Feb 26th, 03, 06:28 PM I went stock with rubber on mine. I figured if it has lasted the first 30 years or so then I won't be the one putting the next set in. I replaced every moving part on the front and the springs. National parts Depot has some nice kits with American made parts that meet GM specs.
quikchevy Feb 26th, 03, 07:14 PM We carry the Classic performance parts kits...they have poly graphite control arm bushings and the rest is regular poly...I have very good feedback from my customers on them and the prices from what I have heard are less than PST....Let me know if you need any more detail!

davidpozzi Feb 26th, 03, 07:52 PM I'd go with solid aluminum subframe to body bushings. You don't want any flex between them at all.
David
HwyStarJoe Feb 27th, 03, 02:51 AM Mike, if ya go with poly, Prothane offers all the bushings you need and were a little less expensive than Energy Suspension, PST, or PSC. I second the notion to put solids between the body/frame along with subframe connectors.
69camaroralleygreen Feb 27th, 03, 06:07 AM those solid body mounts are steetable no vibrations? mike
Everett#2390 Feb 27th, 03, 06:24 AM The solids on the street are just fine. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
diablo67 Feb 27th, 03, 07:56 AM I got the polygraphite super rebuild kit from pst. I just got the arms back all powder coated and bushings pressed in. So this weekend I'll put everything back together. But I was very impressed by the kit. They give you everyting, all bushings and hardware. A very complete kit. No instructions though.
Does anyone know if on the new upper ball joints, do I put the rubber cover on the ball joint before putting the ball joint in the A arm? Or do I put the ball joint through the a arm then on the other side put the rubber cover and metal retainer?
chuckboy7 Feb 27th, 03, 12:52 PM hywstar where can you get these prothane bushings? By the way, where are you in WNY? I'm in buffalo.
quikchevy Feb 27th, 03, 03:03 PM Hey...I jump in here to try and help you guys save a few bucks and get a better product but no takers huh? I sell stuff for a living so I do have some experience with it...
Oh well
pdq67 Feb 27th, 03, 04:24 PM quikchevy,
Thx. for the "little-bitty" sales pitch b/c I am reading every word you said AND will file it away...
BTW, the poly S/F/B's I got are about as hard as frozen "hocky-pucks" so figure they are almost as good as the aluminum ones b/c I got scared of possible mount flexing and cracking so went with them...
Oh well... pdq67

DjD Feb 27th, 03, 04:39 PM Easy there Matt! The sites all about helping and providing the options based on personal experience. Nobody is making money for their advice, or should be! We all throw out our experiences and let the guy asking decide for himself without any added pressure.
Mike I used Prothane on my ragtop for fear solids would be too rigid and was very happy with them. I think there are a lot of options and your "total" project should guide you...
quikchevy Feb 27th, 03, 04:42 PM I guess what im trying to say is EVERYONE wants a deal....I hear it all day long! I sell the same stuff as Ricks, classic ind. ect but I am a small co. and I have the experience from feedback from my customers. I know what fits and what doesn't..I have done a lot of research over the past 2 years and I know a good manufacture from a bad one and I have heard horror stories from a lot of people. Some of you guys think I just chime in to SELL....Well even if you think that why not buy from me, get the same product with MUCH better customer support at a better price. I know for a fact my suspension parts are the best, they are proven and guaranteed for life. I just makes me wonder sometimes thats all! :D
quikchevy Feb 27th, 03, 04:46 PM I totally understand Dennis....but if it helps everyone whats the harm? I can give you guys the inside scoop, save you $$$$$ and move my product...I am a small co. as you know, its just me and Kim here. We have competition with Classic industries and Ricks only beacuase the spend over %500,000 a month to advertise....And you pay for every cent of it when you buy from them...if you want to more power to you...im just trying to make the restoration process more affordable and enjoyable, no pressure tactics, just one on one customer service, not phone operators!!
I am in no way trying to start anything here, you know me dennis.... ;)
DjD Feb 27th, 03, 06:28 PM I see it like this, (and this is conversation nothing more) if we allow those selling widgits to post in the forums, the forums will become nothing more than a repository of wiggit ads and testimony from those selling the widgits and all will tell us they are only trying to help. That's not what we are all about as a site, advice is good a sales pitch isn't!
Beyond that this site is free for our use and if you look around there are no banner ads except for in the ads section. No pop-ups and we don't get e-mails telling us about membership specials etc. The site owner doesn't even advertise his shirts on the forum pages, his limiting himself to the ads page is my catalist for policing and asking others to keep the forums free of solicitation. Ground Up kicks in some and they are the only help Al gets to pay for this place. I assure you this site isn't on a geocities server or some ISP's server as part of a $20.00 a month internet access account. Ground Up has a small text link on the bottom of most pages and one banner in the main ad page. We don't censor folks from recomending Year One or other vendors that are in competition with Ground Up and Ground Up doesn't ask to use the forums to sell their products. This site is about as non-commericial as you will find.
We've never been opposed to a little exposure as long as it adheres to the overall goals of the site. Just as an example in Matt's case a brief signature as an example:
---------------------------
Matt Gossett
Matt's Classic Bowties (could be a link to a website)
'67-'72 Camaros & Chevelles
(XXX) XXX-XXXX
Then in a thread like this Matt's post could look like this: Classic performance parts kits have poly graphite control arm bushings and the rest is regular poly...I believe them to be the best product available.
---------------------------
Matt Gossett
Matt's Classic Bowties
'67-'72 Camaros & Chevelles
(XXX) XXX-XXXX
Can you see how that works? You state your opinion like everyone else and let the reader put 2 and 2 together when they see your signature.
Matt you may be a small fish in the parts bucket but you are in business to make money. You are also in a good position to share valuable information and if you get a sale because of it that's cool. The issue seems to be the way you word things, it's a sales pitch not just friendly advice. Follow the example above and I think all can benifit.
I apologize to Mike for taking this off track and to David as this is his forum and I try to not moderate in forums that have assigned moderators.
