My 1969 Camaro has Disk Rears they work well but the emergency brake doesn't work so well ... the emergency brake actuating pedal doesn't go completely to the floor yet the car doesn't stop rolling down my driveway (a fairly steep driveway) I would think that if they needed adjustment that the actuator would go completely to the floor. Please help!

No responses eh... well ok little more information that i have sound out sense i bought the car .. the brakes on this car do not seem as strong as they should be i cannot lock them up and under strong braking the brake light comes on my mind is thinking brake booster because the brakes don't seem spongy so I don't think bleeding would solve my problem ... any help out there?

the first thing i would do is remove the wheels and look at the brakes.
the second thing would be to observe the operation of the brakes while a partner works the pedal(s).

i'd throw some wild guesses out there but i doubt they would help. you'd have to do the first two things anyway.

brake light is operated by 2 different switches. 1 on the parking brake, and one in the distribution block. the d/block switch can be triggered from a pressure difference, such as a leak. check the fluid level. the booster would not affect it. the booster uses vacuum to assist you in pushing the pedal down. the parking brake light switch can be triggered only by its pedal being applied, unless it is loose, in which case it can come on randomly, predictably, or not at all.

i would still check the operation of the booster, as well as all the brakes at the wheels, inspect all the lines, .... basically a complete inspection. you also need to find out which parts came off of what cars or kits, and make sure everything was done correctly by the previous owner. know and understand your enemy, and you can overcome him.

I recently had the same problem you have had on my 64 Nova. It has 69 Camaro single piston floating calipers in front, and 77 Seville rear discs.

Everything worked pretty good, including the e-brake. The problem I had was during hard braking the pedal got real hard and the brakes would not lock up. I knew the prop valve was OK and the brakes were bled properly. I am running a 6 cyl so low vacuum was ruled out as well. During a normal stop, the pedal was high and the car stopped well. I was using a 7" booster. I called Master Power brakes and they said I didn't have enough booster for the 4WD. I got a 9" booster from MP and now, this car will put you through the windshield! I am very happy now. HTH,

Tim

I tend to lean that way I believe either my booster isn't doing the job or there is a lack of vacuum. I'm not sure what I can do about the lack of vacuum. The pedal feels differently at times and the light comes on occasionally and if I kick the brake pedal hard the light will go off. It's quite perplexing!
