: Caltrac GP
ponjohn Nov 19th, 03, 10:38 AM Hi-
I emailed Calvert to inquire. I'll keep everybody posted. Once it is all set up and open I would ask anybody to spread the word to other forums/ individuals.
Forums I frequent
Here-Camaros.net
PY
CP
John
ponjohn Nov 20th, 03, 05:20 AM OK- here is the preliminary info.
A min of 8 orders qualifies for 10% discount- this puts the price at 289.00 and frieght is 10-20$. Each person would pay direct with m/c or visa.
The GP will run for two weeks once open.
I have asked about: split leaf discount AND a larger discount for more than 8 orders.
I'll keep all posted.
John
Silver69Camaro Nov 20th, 03, 08:58 AM John,
If you tell Calvert that you simply can't afford the full price, they will take off the 10% for you, no group purchase necessary. I don't think they'll go lower than that, but it sure would be nice.
ponjohn Nov 24th, 03, 04:22 AM This is the best and final offer from Caltrac-
16 Orders
15%-269. plus frt for caltracs
10%-233. plus frt for split leaf.
2 week run for GP.
What does everybody think?
Matt R Nov 24th, 03, 08:31 AM John,
Are you going to get a head count before ordering starts? Or how will it work if I call in and only 8 people have order at that time. Will they charge me a 10% discount for now and give me the other five if we hit 16 orders???? Just looking for ordering clearification.
What is the Split Leaf item you listed??? I could not find it on their site.
Thanks,
Matt
cody Nov 24th, 03, 07:13 PM I dunno, 15% doesnt seem like that much of a discount especially if you just tell them you can't afford it and they give you 10 off. if it was 20 i would probably be in, also what is the consensus on which is better betweent the calverts and the slide a links? maybe if they included free freight also?
ponjohn Nov 25th, 03, 04:44 AM Cody- I understand 20% is better than 15%. I told calvert that 10% would not cut it and this was his final offer. I don't know what else to tell you.
I have gotten good feedback from other forums- looks like 16 orders is within reach. Let me contact calvert and I'll ask him for an order number and a tentative start date.
I'll also get clarification on the order process, this is the first GP I have organised.
John
ponjohn Nov 25th, 03, 04:47 AM Cody- I have read many many posts on different forums and the slide-a-links bend under moderate torque. Seems to be the consensus that they bend around 450hp/ tque.
John
Matt R Nov 25th, 03, 06:15 AM John,
Keep us posted on the outcome of the Group Purchase. I would be intersted at 15%.
Also what is the Split Leaf item you meant a few post above????
ponjohn Nov 25th, 03, 07:28 AM I know there isnt any info on the website, if you email Calvert he will get back with. Hopefully someone else can comment on the rate and intended application.
I emailed Travis and this is his reply
"They have a 200lb. spring rate in any ride height you want. Stock height or 1" higher or 1" lower than stock. We prefer cutting off the multi perches and replace them with an after-market mono perch. With a pinion angle of-2 to-4 degrees down. Or you can use aluminum or steel plate to make up the difference. We have a number of street cars running the split springs now. And to the best of my knowledge they are working out fine. "
I know other guys on PY have used them and have been very happy with the 60ft improvement.
cody Dec 2nd, 03, 08:27 PM Hi, just wondering if this group purchase is still on? I have been itching to buy something lately! Any experience with if these things are bad on lowered cars. I have a second gen with hotchkis suspension, and i am afraid these might scrape on the ground?
davidpozzi Dec 3rd, 03, 11:40 AM cody,
I wouldn't think they would be needed with the Hotchkis springs.
David
MY FIRST 69 Dec 4th, 03, 02:56 AM is the GP still on? I have some comp SS traction bars right now on my 69. I was wondering if the cal tracs had a mount for my shocks.
Matt R Dec 4th, 03, 05:18 AM John,
Whats the word on the GP? I have a couple other guys that would like to order also.
Let me know when you finalize the plan with Calvert Racing.
Matt
I am interested as well in the GP. I am running the Detroit Speed 3" drop rears. They should work fine with those right???
67RS/SS406 Dec 7th, 03, 08:08 PM I was thinking about buying the split leaves and caltracs for my 67 as well.If its not too late let us know ;)
kEN SS L79 Dec 8th, 03, 10:01 AM I am interested in a set of split monos for my 66 Nova SS (sorry no Camaro but this is the best site) and called Calvert Racing this morning (Monday).
The manager said that they are awaiting a reply from this post with specifics. They need a minimum of 16 orders (can be any combination of bars and springs) before they can give the discount.
For your info since I think early Novas and Camaros share many of the same suspension parts, the split monos have the same front half and different back halves depending on spring rate and ride height. They have a 200 and 215 lb spring rate with 1 inch higher, stock or 1 inch lower rear ride height. The halves overlap about 12 inches and use the rear end center hole and also clamped together. The 215 lb spring are for over 500 hp for a stiffer rear on drag launch.
I'm ready to order a set of split monos so I hope you can finalize the details soon. Calvert's is waiting on us.
Ken
66 Nova SS L79
355 sbc, 4 speed, 4.11 12 bolt posi.
1.6 60ft, 11.51 et all motor, no nitrous (original 327 in garage for safekeeping)
67RS/SS406 Dec 8th, 03, 07:48 PM Anybody have a pic of the mono split leaves? I have never even seen a photo of them.
Everett#2390 Dec 9th, 03, 01:33 AM So its $502 USD for a set of springs AND the Caltracs? Can one buy just the springs?
Mark .L.W. Dec 9th, 03, 06:57 PM I would also be interested in the Cal tracs for my 69 convertable . I phoned them today and asked about the split mono's , they didn't recommend them if you where thinking of rear passenger's . Maybe leaving the Kids at home would be a good thing , I know then I would have room for My Slicks .
ponjohn Dec 12th, 03, 09:51 AM OK guys here is my thought- I am going to email calvert with a start date. As it stands now between CP, PY and here i have about 10 confirmed orders we need 16 to make 15%- this might bring more people out of the woods if it is on.
Yes, you can rder just the split leafs.
I know it is the holiday season but this is a decent deal OR I can wait until after the first of the year- you guys make the call.
Matt R Dec 15th, 03, 02:30 AM John,
I am ready whenever you set it up. I have another guy that is going to buy a set too. Let us know when you set it up with Calvert.
Thanks,
Matt

graemlins/beers.gif
67RS/SS406 Dec 15th, 03, 02:56 PM Is there a website that has any pics or info on the springs? Do the springs work with mono and/or multi leaf spring perches? I plan on buying a new 12 bolt also and need to know if I need multi leaf or mono leaf perches.
kEN SS L79 Dec 15th, 03, 03:02 PM Aaron A:
I suggest that you call Calvert Racing directly and talk with them. I've called them several times with one question which always lead to other questions. They are very helpful.
Good Luck

jheard Dec 26th, 03, 05:53 AM I'm interested in getting a set of split mono's. I need to talk to Calvert first though because I'm going to need some custom front bushings for my setup - if they can make the front bushings like I need then I'm in.

John
Mark .L.W. Dec 30th, 03, 08:14 AM John Have you had enough interest for the 15% discount .

WizarD69Nova Jan 1st, 04, 09:53 AM I just emailed you with another one.
I have been waiting for someone to do this.
MEAN_SBC Jan 1st, 04, 11:34 AM Just sent an email.... Put me down for a set!!! One question though.. When this goes through, we will be paying Calvert Racing direct, right??? Thanks... graemlins/thumbsup.gif
ponjohn Jan 2nd, 04, 08:35 AM YES- pay calvert direct.
ponjohn Jan 2nd, 04, 12:45 PM OK- This is where we stand officially-
Caltrac orders-10
Split Leafs-5
Some people that emailed me were not clear on what they were comitted to, I am emailed those people direct and will post the update on Sunday.
I have emailed Calvert to open this on Monday- just referance me-John Zeek.
Ed Rempel Jan 2nd, 04, 05:02 PM These Caltracks, are they wildly superior to ordinary Lakewood-type traction bars? Also, these springs are interesting. I have a 630 hp 427. What type of spring would I require? I also see these springs will raise, lower, or leave the rear-end the same height. Is lower OK? Does it look cooler? So many questions about my '75, I know, but I am a Camaro neophyte.
Stroked-Z Jan 3rd, 04, 10:36 PM Hi there. I just signed up & the site looks great.
Another user posted on www.prestage.com (http://www.prestage.com) about a Caltrac group buy & i was just about to order a set for myself.
Is it too late to get a set? I am 100% guaranteed to buy, just let me know when & what to do. I need them for my '81 Z-28
hammerred@hotmail.com or bottlefed@rogers.com
67RS/SS406 Jan 3rd, 04, 10:50 PM Hi and welcome Stroked-Z,I posted the link at prestage, glad you found this. The order starts on Monday and will be open for 2 weeks if I remeber correctly.
WizarD69Nova Jan 4th, 04, 07:50 AM PonJohn....
You said that John Calvert has all the names of those who will be buying.....I am wondering what name you gave him screen name or real name?
Do I need to call him direct and tell him I am part of the group buy?
Sorry for the questions, just getting things straight.
Thank you.
Novaguy73 Jan 4th, 04, 11:51 AM How long will they take to get here? How much is freight? Im looking to get some for my nova
Stroked-Z Jan 4th, 04, 02:42 PM Shipping shouldnt be too expensive. And as far as time, i'm sure they have them ready to go so a couple days.

kEN SS L79 Jan 5th, 04, 10:37 AM John:
I called Calvert Racing this morning and placed my order for a set of split monos and Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks. Everything went smoothly.
Since I live in Hawaii, I should be getting them via US Postal Service by the end of the week.
Thanks for arranging the group purchase.

michwalt15 Jan 6th, 04, 07:24 AM Just ordered my caltracs. It was 289.00 with shipping and he said UPS ground would be less than a week. Pretty good deal.

ponjohn Jan 7th, 04, 10:08 AM Mark- we have until the 19th to order. I am happy this worked out- 289 with sipping is great I was originally told it would be 289 plus frt.
ponjohn Jan 7th, 04, 10:14 AM Outstanding- I just spoke to Calvert we have already hit 16 orders, I will place my order within the next few days for both, splitleafs AND caltracs along with new perches.
Stroked-Z Jan 7th, 04, 07:55 PM Just waiting on another member from a different website to finalize a sale. He's selling me his Slpit leafs but they may need some bushings, so i'm waiting on him so i don't have to re-order from Calvert Racing afterwards.
I did contact them though to let them know i would be ordering asap.
Thanks again John!
MEAN_SBC Jan 7th, 04, 08:13 PM I will be ordering mine on Friday... $289 is an awesome deal!!!! Thanks guys!
ponjohn Jan 8th, 04, 11:50 AM Remember for the split leafs you'll need the know the weight of the car and the tire size you run or plan to run (in my case).
Novaguy73 Jan 8th, 04, 01:56 PM Im going to also order some and i think my neighbor may order some too but it wont be till next thursday {gotta wait till payday graemlins/thumbsup.gif }

I ordered my split monos and Rancho shocks on Monday and they arrived on Thursday.
I installed them yesterday (Saturday) and they were pretty easy to install and look great. The new springs also solved my driver side lower than the passenger side problem.
I can't wait to take my car to the track.
Thanks again for arranging the group purchase.
Ken
ponjohn Jan 12th, 04, 07:10 AM Ken- can you post a pic or two?-john

$291 shipped.
THX all!
shockers69 Jan 12th, 04, 01:39 PM Here's my plan,I have a 12 bolt mono leaf in my 69 Camaro that came out of a 70 Chevelle it is too wide and the spring perches are in the wrong place. My plan is to order new shorter axles from Moser,c-clip eliminators, new spring perches, and have them installed for $175,call Calvert Racing before the group purchase expires and get the Cal-tracs.My 3 questions are.Would you use the mono spring i have now or would you order the split mono? How do i tell if the mono spring i have now is the correct one for my 69 since the rearend came out of a Chevelle with a coil spring setup? What benefit are c-clip eliminators on your axles?
ponjohn Jan 12th, 04, 02:40 PM Shockers-Ill do my best.
the 69's were supposed to have multis so most likely they are wrong to begin with. So i would go with the splits expecially if you plan any kind of real HP.
The c-clip eliiminators are a safety device to hold the axle in by a flange and not the c-clips. Again if any kind of real hp is considered best bet is to get it done correctly. have it narrowed to 54" backing plate to backing plate. (correct width for a first gen)
67RS/SS406 Jan 12th, 04, 02:49 PM graemlins/thumbsup.gif My split monos and Caltracs arrived today.Everything looks great, now I need some warm weather to work on the car.I should also try to save a few $$$s so I can get my garage built this coming spring/summer ;) .

Matt R Jan 13th, 04, 07:57 AM Ken,
Did the Aluminum bushings go into the spring eye pretty smooth? I am going to install mine next weekend.
Matt
kEN SS L79 Jan 13th, 04, 08:30 AM Matt:
The split monos already have the aluminum bushings installed by Calvert Racing so installation was easy.
When I first purchased the Caltrac bars, I had to remove the front of the rear spring stock rubber bushings ( with a propane torch, a chisel to cut the rubber bushings, and a brass rod and a hammer to pound out the bushings) and a file to clean out the spring eye so the aluminum bushings could slide into it. My car had the original rubber bushings so it took about a hour to remove and fit the new bushings.
I also replaced the rear spring eye bushings with poly since they were out of round due to age.
The overall result was a tight rear suspension.
Hope this answered your question.
Ken
ponjohn Jan 14th, 04, 12:02 PM I should have all my stuff on Friday.
Born To Run In 69 Jan 14th, 04, 02:51 PM Hi guys! I had spent the last few days trying to decide what to do with the rear suspension on my 69 when I happened to check this post out. I was trying to decide between a set of CalTracs or another similar brand. While I'm glad to say that I ordered a set of CalTracs, perches and split-mono leafs today.
Thanks for organizing the group purchase John!
