: Lowering Blocks
Balboni Apr 2nd, 01, 06:17 AM Can someone recommend a place to buy high quality lowering blocks? I tried Guldstrand Engineering's and they are not manufacturing them at this time. They have just moved and will not give me a date as to when I can get some. I am looking for 1" blocks...
Thanks Jeff
boodlefoof Apr 2nd, 01, 06:37 AM Summit sells lowering blocks. They are listed in the Trucks and SUV section. They have 1, 2 and three inch drop blocks and they come with U-bolts. Price is around $25.
RockyMtnRacer Apr 2nd, 01, 07:13 AM Pep Boys - same price as Summit.

Rich253 Apr 2nd, 01, 03:48 PM I have a question about those Summit & Pep Boys lowering blocks, if you don't mind.
(This may be one of those dumb questions)
I noticed that they have an alignment pin protruding out one side. Where is this pin supposed to go? I have a 67, the alignment pin is on the bottom of the leaf and goes into a hole on the lower plate. Those lowering blocks obviously have to go on top of the leaf, (between the axle and leaf), so would I have to grind off the pin on the lowering blocks?
Thanks,
Rich

boodlefoof Apr 2nd, 01, 04:08 PM I believe the blocks have the pin on the bottom to simulate the pin on the spring. The top of the block has a little socket that the leaf's pin will fit into. I think.
Rich253 Apr 2nd, 01, 04:21 PM duplicate post, sorry

That's what I thought at first, but that would mean the block would go under the spring, which would not lower the body. That would only lower the shock bracket, I think.
I'm confused.

boodlefoof Apr 2nd, 01, 04:47 PM The block would go between the spring and spring perch on the axle. I believe the spring perch on the axle tube also has a hole for a pin (mine does) and this is what the block's pin goes into. Sorry for the confustion I think I got my top and bottom confused. So, if I am right the block sits on the spring and the pin faces up and rests in a socket on the perch on the axle tube.
Rich253 Apr 2nd, 01, 04:52 PM Now that's making pretty good sense. I have not removed my leaf springs yet, so I didn't no about a socket in the axle perch. I guess I'll find out soon enough!
Thanks,
Rich
CarlC Apr 2nd, 01, 07:05 PM The Guldstrand blocks are 1" thick aluminum bar stock the same width as the spring.
Drill and tap a 3/8"-16 hole in the center of the differential block face. Screw in a short (about 7/16" thread lenght) 3/8"-16 Allen head bolt (same head diameter as the rubber insualtor grommet)to act as the alignment pin. On the other side, using the 3/8" -16 hole as a guide, drill a hole just slightly larger than the pin on the spring.
That's all there is to the Guldstrand block. Cost's about $10 and an hours labor.
You can also make different heights or angles to suit the driveline angle. You will need a mill to change the angle.
