plan on replacing the leaf spring to axle cushions on my 69 ss 396. it has the 5 spring multi leafs with a 12 bolt rear end.
my ? is - do i have to remove the leaf springs to install the cushions?
it looks like i could just jack the car up, then jack the axle up enough to give me enough clearance on the top cushion to install it. doesn't look like the bottom cushion would be a problem at all other than getting the bolts broken loose. will i also have to remove the bottom shock/nut or will it be OK to leave it attached to the bottom plate if i can get enough height on the car?
other bushings look O.K. at the ends of the springs, so i thought i would only replace these.

yes ,that will work just fine, make sure you use jack stands on the rear frame rails....and as for the shoks..take them off on the lower mounts only, good luck and watch your fingers...lol http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

It can be done as you described but be ready to replace the centering bolt if the springs are old. Also have lots of penetrating oil.

finished it this morning. did the passenger side first with no problem. drivers side needed a little more coaxing, but finally came apart. pretty easy to do. took about an hour and a half. just wished i would of took the time to look at them before i got a new set. the ends were frayed and looked worn out, but when i removed them, that was the only bad part. rest of the pad looked good, but i had already sprung for the new polys from pst so i put em in. thanks for the replys.
