I am wanting to change the gears in my 12 bolt rearend in my 67. I currently have 3.73 on a 4 series carrier. I am looking for a 2.73 or even a 2.56. Can anybody tell me the interchange years where I can get a 2 series carrier with gears? I heard that 65-72 chevy, some olds and even some pontiac might fit. What kind of car would be most likely to have a posi and is there a way to tell before I remove the cover? Oh by the way I have a Richmond 6-speed with a 3.28 1st and a 415 stroker so the motor really likes low rpm...

I don't know the answer to your question, but could you tell me what size tires and wheels you have on your camaro? They appear to fit very well.

Are you sure you have a four series carrier?
3.73 used a 3 series, unless you have something special.
You can get a special thin ring gear ratio that will fit A 4 series carrier.
It's available from Richmond Gear in 3.08 only.
The normal 3.08 fits a 3 series carrier.
We did a 3.08 swap when putting in a Richmond 5 speed and it gives you the same gearing as a std muncie close ratio with 4.10's in the first four gears.

Mark to answer your question, I have 245/45/zr17 tires in front and 275/40/zr17 in the rear. Yes they fit pretty good I think on the next set I will go with 255 in the front because I still have the room. I have a very minor rub on the left rear inner fender when I go diagonally into a driveway. My rearend is slightly favoring the left side and I read this is kind of normal. My rims are 17x8" with 4.5" b.s. front and 17x9.5" with 5.5" b.s.
Dave to address your post, I have a Richmond 3.73 ring and pinion P/N 49-0096-1 which is for a 4 series carrier. I have the Richmond book in front of me mine at least dosent list a 3.08 that fits a 4 series only up to 3.73.
If you could verify this and maybe tell me a p/n that would be GREAT because I would settle for a 3.08.

joeyj,
They definately make it because I had one in my hands for a couple of days before we sent it back.
We opened up the rear end and it had a spacer on the posi unit (4.11 gears) so we didn't need the special R&P after all!
We exchanged it for a std one. They charge a fiew bucks more for the gears above std ones.
It isn't listed in either of my two Richmond catalogs.
And the new one, I just picked up at SEMA in Nov.
You can get the gears from any of the mail order gear vendors.
Or call Richmond gear directly.
They make gear ratios above 3.08 too but don't list them in their "performance" catalog.
It must be in their standard catalog.
I don't know if I still have the reciept of the gears. It would be better if you called them.
Let me know if you have trouble locating the gears & I'll dig out the number or get you someone who knows.
