i have a 67 camaro lowered with hotchkis 2" drop coils and lowering blocks, but my car still sits to high in the front. i want to lower it more but not with drop spindles because of the bad feedback about them. will cutting the coils sacrifice the ride?. what are my other options? thanks graemlins/beers.gif

Do you have a big block or a small block?
Are you sure you got the small bock springs?

I have noticed that hardtops seem to run a bit higher than convertibles after installing the Hotchkis springs. My car is a convertible and was very very low. Half of my front tire was in the fender well. Almost 1.5" lower than most hard tops I have seen.

I had to run 3/8 spacers from Global West just to get it up enough to stop rubbing.

chopping a coil will lower it quite a bit. like an inch and a half. but it's really a hit or miss probability. if it ends up being too low, global west sells aluminum spring spacers in different sizes.

smaller wheel and tire sizes will lower it, but they wont fill out the wheelwell as well.

taller profile ratio tires or larger rim sizes will raise it, but they will fill out the wheelwell better, making it look lower, and if it is sitting higher in the front, you can raise the back and do this.

i doubt any of that helped, but i said it anyway. i have no idea what your tire sizes are.

Kilo, how long have you had the coils installed? If they were recently installed my advice is to wait several months and see how the height is. I had the same feeling with my Hotchkis springs after installation. Here is a pic of the height right after installation (top) and after a couple of months settling (lower):

choptop, i've had them installed for about a month, so your saying i should wait at least another month then decide what i should do. if in a month and its still not the way i would like it, should i cut 1/2 a coil. will it affect my ride??

Yes, if it has only been one month I would wait at least another month to see if the springs settle some more. Mine settled about 1.5 inches more (at least) from the time of installation. Unfortunately I can't recall exactly how much time passed between the two photos- it might have been three months because I discovered the frame needed to be replaced after upgrading the springs.

If you decide to cut the springs later start with 1/2 a coil, reinstall and go from there. Cutting the springs will affect your spring rate and ride quality- the more you cut the more the rate will change.

What tire size are you running or planning to run? The pictures I posted are with the old 215/50/15 tire. Currently I'm running a 235/45/17 which is not much different in height but appears to fill the wheel well much better (mostly illusion caused by the smaller sidewall).

right now i'm running 235/40/17 on the front and 275/40/17 in the rear. i'm just gonna wait until the springs settle, then decide what i'll do.

thanks for the info graemlins/beers.gif

Whatever you do, PLEASE do not cut them with a blow torch (unless you really know what you are doing). I had mines cut with a blow torch and they have buckled up horribly (whick explained why my car kept bottoming out whenever I hit a bump in the road). I now am going to have to change mines out because of this. If you do decide to cut them down, Please, use a bandsaw or some other cutting tool, anything but a torch
