I tore down the front end on my '68 over the weekend and the driver's side spindle is chewed and burnt. I'm going to need a new one. I have a list of donors from David Pozzi's site so I will probably try a junkyard trawl but how much do disc spindles generally run?

You can buy them new for, I think, less then a $100 each.. I'm thinking like $59/each but it's been a while since I looked them up?

There are a lot more people selling them now then when they were first NOS'ed but now made new again.

Check several of the web parts stores as well as the main brake kit selling companies b/c I know somebody has them at not too bad a price???

PS., I just hope I'm not getting confused with caliper brackets???

Check your local boneyards. I was able to find a nice used spindle from a Chevelle (with the caliper, bracket and all still attached) for $40.

Withnail, replace both while you're at it. I was going to say look in the junkyard also because you might get lucky and score a bunch of front end parts cheap. But by the time you look for and find spindles that are decent enough to use, you could have purchased new ones.
If you go the junkyard route, pay close attention to the bottom surface of the spindle that the hub and bearings ride on for excessive wear.

CPU http://67.37.173.213/ has disc brake spindles for $80 each. Part# Y2447 and drum style for $50. Part# Y2446

Ricks sells used disc or drum spindles for about the same prices as CPU's new ones.

Don't forget to check E-Bay! I bought both front drum spindles complete with steering arms, hubs, bearings & seals, & backing plates for $30+ shipping. There are some good deals out there if you look around. I know that discs will run a little more but if you are crafty, buy a drum spindle for cheap and modify it to accept your disc brake brackets and parts. David Pozzi's site has information on how to do it..

You're right Go69. smile.gif
I sometimes forget to mention EBay because I know how some people feel about it. But it amazes me how inexpensively you can buy good parts for there.

Thanks for the advice guys. I actually was quoted $75 from a local salvage yard for a used spindle so the new ones at $79 sound like a good enough deal for me. I like to use new parts where possible so I think I'll give CPU a try. I was going to have to take time off work to go scouring the local yards and there's no guarantee I'd find one anyway.
