Hello, i need some help. I just replaced my master cylinder with a new one. I have vacuum assisted disc brakes. I just fired my 67 up and I hear a big vacuum leak. I found a hole under the master cylinder in the little divet towards the rear. It looks like the hole is drilled there for a reason. My brakes barely work with this leak. I plugged the hole with some duct tape and most of the vacuum noise goes away. Also my breaks work great then. What is this hole for? Is it supposed to be there? Do I need to plug it with something? Did I install the rubber gasket between the booster & m/cylinder correctly? Please Help!

That doesn't sound right. Have you asked the place you bought the booster from about it?

No, But the hole looks like it's supposed to be there. The hole looks like a vent that goes through to the inside of the master cylinder mounting flange. I think the rubber grommet that seals the master cylinder to the booster is leaking. Maybe it got cocked when I slid the master Cylinder in? It's a lot of work to take the m/cylinder off. I'd hate to take it apart for nothing. Does your master cylinder have this hole? It's under the round casting that looks like it would hold a hose or some wires or something. I had to use a mirror to see this hole.
Thanks,

Strange, there was another post last week with pictures from another who was having the same problem.

He asked the same question, but, didn't get any responses. I didn't have an answer, unless the both of you got manual master cylinders vice power cylinders......

That is strange. I have power disc brake master cylinder.(the one with two bails)I ordered a new pushrod boot from www.brakeboosters.com. (http://www.brakeboosters.com.) Hopefully this solves my problem. I'll let you know in a week! graemlins/waving.gif

Hello, I'm back. Good news, The pushrod boot fixed my problem. My old boot either was installed by me wrong, or dry-rotted. It tore in two pieces! The new one fit perfectly! Anyone else with a vacuum leak around the m/cyl flange & bottom drain hole, a new boot will fix it. graemlins/hurray.gif

That's good news, can you fix the link you provided? It doesn't work.
