I am going to redo my suspension on my 68 Camaro, New springs, front end rebuild, body bushings, The works, I have heard pros and cons on bushing types. Ricks First gen sells the Poly ( red or black bushings) kits and make the impression they are the best.Other comments in this forum say they are junk. Any opinions on what are the best bushings I should use. I only want to tackle this once. I have not looked at the Upper arms to see condition but I heard some people say replace if old.Any suggestions on replacement types and source. Also any recommendations on the Major front end rebuild kits and leaf springs etc from Ricks.
Thanks

Ray,
I will be interested in what people say. You are going to get alot of answers like: how much money do you want to spend, what type of driving? People are going to say they squeak. But I believe all of them squeak.
I am at the exact same point you are. My subframe will be back next week. I just bought the Hotchkis TVS suspension. Why? I just made a decision based on the email feedback I received from a bunch of people here that run the TVS. Everyone of them have great things to say. I went with Bilstein shocks. I purchased a wilwood front disc conversion.
Now I need bushings. I am leaning toward the PST polygraphite because it is time to make a decision.
Peoople will talk about global west bushings. They also make tubular control arms...set about 900 with bushings.

I used poly in front. Interestingly, they squeaked a little the first year, quiet since (4 more)

Sometimes poly sqeaks, sometimes they do not??? You will get all sorts of responses about squeaking bushings or the lack of squeak.
Since you dropped the big wad (cash) for your suspension it would seem foolish to me to put rubber back in the suspension. Therefore the only decision I see you have to make is poly, Del-A-Lum or solid bushings.
Solid would definitely be out for me if you plan any street driving. They require greasing and are just not street friendly.
Poly can be a good choice as they offer little deflection. I have seen poly bushings wear out quickly if not installed properly or used in any type of situation where the suspension binds at all. Use in Jeeps comes to mind. "I" think the squeaking issue depends upon the manufacturer of the bushing AND how they are installed. I have only had one experience with squeaking poly bushings and that was 12 years ago before the advent of lubricated urethane.
Del-A-Lum really are the top of the heap from my perspective for performance, handling and wear. They are expensive and worth the expense over poly if money is not an issue.
Let's face it, I assume this car will not be your daily driver so total comfort and longevity should not be an issue. I think you will be happy with poly or Del-A-Lum bushings in your front and rear suspension.
I do not like nor would I do the B body tall spindle conversions with tubular A arms. It creates about as many suspension geometry problems as it solves. This conversion creates HORRIBLE bump steer. This conversion is an expensive mistake! There are better ways to upgrade Camaro front suspensions for better handling.

When I try to mix/match the TVS system and with the PST polygraphite super/front end kit I double up on a few parts. (stabilizer links, sway bar bushings, and tie rod sleeves.)
Are there differences in ball joints and tie rods? Looking at the PST site it appears that there is nothing real special about these parts. If they are not "special" in anyway I can add a bushing kit for 100 from PST and pick up ball joint and tie rods from a local parts store.
Any reason to replace the idler arm? Upper inner shafts? Drag bar?
Del-A-Lum dealer?

I used the super rebuild kit from PST and the subframe bushing kit. All poly. I used the grease that was sent and have heard very little squeking. I also used the vette brakes performance package. I think the only thing I would change in my set up is the KYB shocks. They are very stiff. If I were runing road races it would be great. I have been running like this for a few years and I think I am ready for a change. I was told that the triple leaf springs from VB would eliminate the wheel hop.....it didnt. I plan on some traction bars here pretty soon too.

I just recently did a complete rebuild on the front end of my ’67 convertible. I used all polygraphite bushings. Used the grease supplied with the bushings and I have no squeaks. I replaced all hardware with TRW or MOOG that I bought from rockauto.com or my local Carquest store. (Their house brand is TRW/MOOG.) I replaced my stock springs with MOOG 6308 springs as recommended on this site. KYB GR-2 shocks. This was the most “cost effective” way of doing it. Ride is much improved over stock. Firm, but not uncomfortable. Mine is a daily driver that rolls on 205/60 Radial TA’s up front. Hope this helps.
