for backround I Have four wheel drum brakes on a 68. I replaced the front right wheel cylinder and hose and the brakes were easier for the 10 minutes i tried them last night. When I drove the car this morning they were once again rock hard. They do stop the car and can lock up the wheels but because there is so little travel they are extremely touchy. Any thoughts?

Hummm - 'rock hard petal - stops the car - can lock up the tires' - there are people on this site that would _ _ _ _ for brakes like that!
Seriously, we need to know a little more about the system and the problem before we can give you a good answer.
Do you have power brakes? What work has been done on the system recently? How much petal travel is there to the "hard" point?

they are manual brakes, there is probably about an inch of travel before it gets hard. The only work that has been done since i bought it is a new rear left wheel cylinder, front right wheel cylinder, front right brake hose, and all brakes were bled.
This is the first car i have ever driven with manual brakes so i don't know what it should feel like, perhaps there isn't really a problem.

Manual brakes can sometimes feel 'firmer' to people that are used to power brakes as nothing is helping "suck" the pedal down for you.
The 'touchiness' could be due to the lining type, are they semi or full metalic. It could also be due to the size of the master cylinder, was it replaced with a different bore size in the past. Doesn't sound like there could be anything wrong with the bleeding of the system - all the air must be out.
Like you said - it could be due to you not being familiar with the brake feel for that car. You could drive it locally a little more and then decide if it feels more normal to you.
If you have any doubts about the brakes fuction I would recommend you take to a Certified Brake Mechanic and have him double check the system for you.

Make sure there is a very slight play between the brake pushrod and the master cyl piston. If the piston is not allowed to return all the way, the brakes can pump up and even drag.

Thanks guys for your input. There is a slight bit of play before the pushrod engagege the cylinder. I think on next week I will run the car down to my mechanic and have him try them.
thanks,
What master cylinder are you using? Sounds like you might have a different MC than stock with larger bore...
Is the pedal hard to push?
