I changed the fluid and filter recently on my 400 turbo and while torqueing down the bolts I stripped one that holds my shifter linkage. There has not been a problem with it but I am looking for the best way to fix it. Help me fix my problem!

I did the same thing last year on my TH-350.
This winter I pulled the tranny and removed the tranny pan. I inspected the mounting holes and noticed that it wasn't just the shifter bracket threads. Several holes had threads that were not good. I decided to repair all the holes. I bought a heli-coil thread repair kit at NAPA. Drilled out the holes, didn't tap all the way through and inserted new threads. Everything tightened up great this time.

A better choice over the heli-coil is a Timesert, I think that what it's called. The heli-coil is like a spring and evenutally breaks. The Timesert is a solid tube that is threaded in the inside and outside. The kit is hard to find, but if you have to remove the bolt every now and then, it's worth it.

After using the heli-coil I would agree that it could be done from underneath. I pulled my tranny and engine to detail the engine compartment and do some engine work.
