I'm planning on dropping 67 F-body about 2 inches and I notice alot of guys go with the Hotchkis front and rear springs and end up cutting the front springs and use lowering blocks for the rear leaf springs.

Others I notice just cut the front stock springs and use lowering blocks or remove a leaf or two in the rear to achieve the same height.

Now is there an advantage to cutting the Hotchkis springs rather than the stock springs because it seems like a waste of money doing it this way unless there is a performance or safety advantage that I don't know about. Thanks, Chris

V8, I don't know much about your options of the front springs, but I will give you my opinion of the rear springs. Lowering blocks will certainly work for you, but how old are your leaf springs? If they are original, it's probably time to replace them anyway. I just bought springs from EatonDetroit. They make the springs from factory blue prints, and consider such options such as auto trans, ac, etc. They will make them to your liking. I ordered mine 1" lower than stock. I just installed them last week and am very satisfied. They are much better than the springs I ordered from a local resto company. You do not have to cut hotchkis springs. Now, the big block package I'm not sure about but the small block 2" drop springs give the car a nice stance. I had 2" drop spindles on my car, replaced with stock spindles and installed the hotchkis springs and the car was actually a little lower than the drop spindles. I have yet to drop the rear but will probably end up with the 1.5" de-arched leafs from hotchkis.

Navlone, do you have a small or big block motor???

Also, why is it the 1.5 inch Hotckis rear springs are 1/2 inch higher than their 2 inch front springs??

I have a 67 rs with 327. I didn't want to order the rears until I got the front done because old leafs tend to sag over the years. By measurement, a 1.5" drop in the rear would be perfect for somewhat of a little rake to the car. If you go with hotchkis, be sure to order them from someone like summit being hotchkis charges more for them if you order direct. I went with the Hotchkis b/c I'm running 17" wheels and after many questions here and www.pro-touring.com (http://www.pro-touring.com) it's a proven set up.

After installing Hotchkis front and rear, I tried to have the front end aligned. Problem is not being able to get enough caster. With 12.7 power steering I should have 3 to 4 degrees caster. All they could get was 1 degree! The minimum camber at that setting was 1 1/2 degrees negitive. The alignment guy suggested custom A arms, does anyone know of a source?

Look into Landrum spacers for the front springs. CarlC has em. They're the best as far as I'm concerned. No oops I cut em too much or they're too tall you just adjust em to where you like it.

I'm running MOOG front springs that I cut. I like it for now but it would be nice to adjust em. Landrum also has shackles with various holes to adjust the height of your rear springs. Part # LSS406 or you could make your own with steel. Theirs are aluminum. I was talking to someone else about 3 leaf springs with an elongated third leaf with more forward bite and more spring rate. They're stock height but just make your own shackles or use landrums ones to adjust the height.
