CPU has a disc brake kit for $449.95. The price looks very appealing to me. But are there additional things that I would need to buy that this kit does not include? Basically, I don't want to shell out $450 only to have to spend $400 more on necessities to get the kit to fit my manual drum 69.

My goal is to find a no frills bolt-on kit at a reasonable price. CPU's price is certainly reasonable....compared to SSBC/Rick's.

I'm open to any suggestions or recommendations on manual drum to disc conversion kits.

BTW...I searched the archives and read about the CBB mod. That's too elaborate for me.

Thanks!

David

Hey David, the only thing I see missing in the kit is the brake hoses. That is for everything you need at the wheel. If you are converting from drum to discs, then you may need a new master cylinder and brake booster if you want power brakes. That seems like a very good price for what you get. Although, I would highly recommend the original CBB setup that I did. There is absolutely nothing exotic about it. It is a very simple upgrade and is cheaper than what you`ll pay for a comperable or lesser performing setup. If you haven`t already done so, check out David Pozzi`s website for the info on how to do it and pictures of my brakes. They also fit inside 15" wheels, which is why I chose them most of all.

CPU's website:

I just purchased the disc brake caliper brackets so I can star working on Mako's CBB. smile.gif CPU has them cheaper than anywhere else, that's for sure.

It really helps to post a link to the kit you want advice about, or like I did above, copy the text and photo to the forum so it appears and is easy to see.

I did a Google search after posting last night and found them. Still, if I need a booster, MC and prop valve the MP kit is a good deal.

I just got finished installing the MP brake conversion setup on my 67 that was manual drums and it was GREAT! The kit included EVERYTHING I needed including booster, master cylinder and lines. My camaro now stops better then my 95 mazda milenia (I think it may need work)

The kit was pretty straight forward and I dont think you can beat it for the price. I paid 575 plus shipping with their ebay deal they had going. I got everything in that CPU kit AND booster, master, and lines.

Thanks for all the input. I will look into the mpbrakes.com kit....that sounds like a very good price.

Zack67: Are they still running that Ebay special? How long ago did you purchase them?

David,

I turned Zack onto this kit and price. I finally placed an order for kit today with Rich @ MP. I got the whole kit without the booster for $575 + shipping. Shipping from NC to GA was about $60. I didn't need the booster as I had the original booster replated and rebuilt last year.

If you are interested call MP and ask for Rich. Tell him you saw the price on Ebay last month

Good luck.

Dont forget the clamp that holds the brake hose on the A frame. It keeps the hose from binding or swinging too much back and forth in its travel, Im told. Not sure if all A frames came with the bolt hole that it goes into or not. Here is a pic showing the clamp, there is a steel shank type bushing around the hose to hold it cleanly. The hoses should come with that shank around it already. Love them disc brakes. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

That kit from Matt's is a good buy however there are 2 reasons I went with the MP kit.

1. I wanted to assemble the kit as a learning experience. I have never packed a bearing in my life and thought it was a skill I needed to learn.

2. Shipping from CA to GA was $100, making the kit close to $800.

These kits aren't light and shipping can really add up the farther away you are.
