My '67 camaro makes sounds whenever I turn the steering wheel at a sharp angle. It sounds like a squeaking or rubbing kind of noise. I think it may be the power steering. Does anyone know what could be the source of this problem or how to fix it?

Thanks,
Samuel

are your tires rubbing the frame?

maybe the belt is loose or worn out, and that is what is screaming.

The pump is under load when you turn, so it'll squeal when you turn.

could be alot of things, you need to do more investigation, like CSI :D

:D CSI, I like that! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
probably the belt, have someone turn the wheel while you watch the pulley, It's probably slipping, ive seen them stop completely!

To find a squeaky belt you can squirt some window cleaner on the suspected belt and it will change the noise telling you that is the one. As it dries out, it will usually make MORE noise, but after a while it will quiet back down.

On my 67 Chevelle, I had a noise and it turned out to be part of the steering shaft rubbing a brake line ... So, in additional to checkingbelt and pump, also look for any friction or contact points ...
