I recently had my 68's fuel tank replaced at the local Chevy dealership after it began leaking. They installed a new GM tank, and everything went OK until about a month ago when rust started appearing on the tank.

They said it was only surface rust and not to worry about it. They didn't recommend painting it.

Do I need to do something to the tank like using Eastwood's Tank Tone or will it be OK to let it develop the surface rust?

Thanks.

Drop it and paint it with something, (Eastwood is good) I used a spray paint called "Stainless Steel" and did my straps in black.

Personally, I would coat it. I also have a new tank and am using POR-15 clear in the non-yellowing formula. I mean, why go to the expense, etc of a new item and see it start rusting? There's many products available. I happen to be partial to their products.
