my '69 has what came on it when i bought it, which is the 15" rally wheels with flat caps. i'm not sure if these are 7" or 8" wheels or what the back space is. on them are b.f. goodrich radial t/a's 235/60r15 front and back. i have just a little scrubbing on the passenger front if i go lock to lock with a passenger. with just me in the car, no scrubbing at all. if you hit a huge bump (i live in Mississippi and we'en aint got the best roads) the rear will bottom out, but not too bad. i like the look of having the same size tire on front and back. i was wondering what is the biggest size tire i could run?
i saw a post that said 245's were ok : "I put the 245's on all 4 corners so I could rotate them"
while another said : "The car has 15x8 rallye wheels and the MAXIMUM tire size (60 series) that should be used on the front is P235 x 60-15. The 245/60-15 will fit on the front but clearance is marginal at best when turning.".
i'm just wondering if someone could clear this up for me?

Yea I'll clear it up. I have a 69 BIG BLOCK RS/SS Camaro and with 15 x 8 Rallye Wheels on BOTH the front and rear and with the stock backspacing. With this specific setup you should use NO LARGER than P235 x 60 tires on the front and P275 x 60 series tires on the rear IF and ONLY IF you have a sway bar on the rear because if you don't the back tires will RUB in the corners due to the body edging into the wheel opening space. I currently have 235 x 60's on the front and 255 x 60's on the rear BUT I am going to have to go back to the 275 x 60 tires on the rear because I need more traction to support 500 HP. I do agree however that it would be nicer if you could use same size tires all the way around. I previously had 225 x 50 series tires on the front and 265 x 50 series tires on the back but I felt the car was too low in the front. I wanted to get back to more of the stock stance of the original car so that is why I went back to 60 series tires. I have spent approximately 1500 dollars to find this piece of information out but the purpose of these forums is to share with others about our mistakes NO?????
By the way, your car is bottoming out in the rear for one of two reasons. One, your shocks need changing (try KYB shocks here) or Two your leaf springs are weak (replace them with new multileaf units from Eaton Spring. I have changed EVERY suspension component out in my 69 and the bottoming out problem was by far the most aggravating. I doubt it Mike. The overall diameter is the problem on the 245/60's. Also, if your FRONT springs are weak, they too can transfer too much energy to the rear suspension causing a bottoming out condition. Keep in mind however that the First GEN camaros in general have a somewhat limited travel rate in the rear suspension due mainly to the fact that they have a live axle vs. independent setup. I have sub-frame connectors on my car and they did also help a little in this regard.

the car does have new KYB gas shocks all the way around. the rear springs may be a little weak, but the bottoming out only happens when i hit a hugh bump, so it's not too much of a problem. i wonder if my wheels were 15 X 7's if that would allow me to run 245's on the front?

I had the same problem with my rear suspension bottoming out on large bumps. Solved the problem by replacing the springs.
