I'm currently running P295/50/15 rear tires on a '73 Z-28 (with a surprizing amount of room to spare). I'm considering moving to 17" rims all the way around and was wondering if anyone has managed to stuff a 315/35/17 under a 2nd gen Camaro. If you have, I'd love to hear about it.

I remember stuffing N50-15s under my '74 many years back - we had to roll the fender lip with a baseball bat and they still rubbed with more than 2 people in the car. Sorry - I don't have any idea how 17's and 315's would fit but if you can get them in there they'll look great!

Markb,

According to the March 2000 issue of Car Craft you can use 17x10 wheels with 6 inch backspacing and up to a 315 tire if the aspect ratio is 40 or less. Also requires removal of the rear seat belt retractor & bulge. They also say, "this is a really tight fit, so success will vary car to car".

BTW, for the fronts they say the max is 17 x 9 1/2" wheels with 6 inch backspace (if you are willing to modify lower control arm / steering stops). Tire size of 275 with aspect ratio of 40 or less.

Please let us know how it works out if you try it.

markb,

what are you running for wheels and backspacing to fit 295's?

My father in law is running 295/50/15's on his 73 Camaro. His wheels are 15x8's with 4.5" bs.
