: backspacing? how does it work?

I just ordered my new rims today, BUT as usuall I have questions.

my stock 67RS has 14x7 inch rallys 5x 4 3/4 bolt pattern and 3 3/4 backspacing.

well I wanted to get out of the 14" wheels so I ordered new cragar street stars 15X7 with the same bolt pattern, except the backspacing on these was 4 1/8

will these fit? and is the backspacing how far the rim sits in on the wheel? or the distance from the center of the rim to the edge of it?

and IF these rims fit, how does this tire combo sound

245 60 15 on rear
235 70 15 on front

all bf goodwrich radial white raised letters

Those wheels will work fine. That 70 series in the front might look funky, at least in my opinion, I'd stay with 60's all the way around. Backspacing is measured from the center of the wheel (the part that is flat against you brake drum/disk) to the outer edge of the wheel. You can measure it yourself by placing a flat edge across the back of the wheel and then measuring the distance from that to the bolt circle of the wheel.

then maybe a 245 60r15 on the rear and the 235 60r15 on the front? , dang, its so hard to figure out what looks good and wont rub. + I dont want it to sit up so high it looks like a truck,. I have seen some older 1st gens look like they are sitting up really high. now mine sits pretty nice, but I dont know on the 15's , Its only another inch in wheel diameter, but tire size is larger also...

Yeah I'd definatly go with a 60 series, maybe even a 225/60 in the front. 235 is a pretty big tire and if your car sits low you don't want to run into clearence problems with the inner fender where it bolts on to the outer fender, that part is the first place contact will occur when hitting large bumps. I have 215/50 16 on the front of my car and they don't look to skinny in my opinion. One of these days when I get the motivation and time I'm going to start my own web page and get this wheel size thing down to a science. I have 14", 15", 16", 18" and 20" wheels either sitting around or on a family members car. With all those wheels and tire sizes and considering I could put them on either the front or back of my car to check clearences, I should really be able to narrow down what the best sizes for 1st gen camaros.

while looking at the Firewheel classics catolog the other day, I noticed a Green 67 RS/SS with the same tires I have, they are on 14" Torque thrust D's but the same make and series tire. ( 235 60r14 BF goodrich radial TA's) and they look Close, but look nice...

I bought all 4 235 60's but 15" , they will be mounted on my Cragar Street stars this weekend, I hope they fit with that much backspacing... I looked at my current tire / rim setup, and man its so close to the upper control arm I am worried... do you know that these rims will fit?>

I posted a new thread to show you what I had. I had to exchange 2 of the tires for 215 60 r15 as the 235 60 r15 do not fit. , well they would fit, but look funny, they just wouldnt look right. the 215 60's are about the same size and look of a 195 70 14 , but with the larger rim. I showed a picture in the new topic. wondering if it will all work... I sure hope so. I was going to have the tires mounted this weekend...
