Has anybody ran 295/50-R 15's or 16's on the back of a 67 camaro with nonstaggered shocks and 11" disk brakes? What backspacing do I need for the rear rims that I'm going to get?

I don't think you can fit a tire that big into the stock wheelwell. A 275 is a really tight fit even with the correct offset and trimming the outer wheelwell. A 295 tire has a 12" width and does not include the sidwall balloning out. The stock wheelhousing is approx. 11 1/2" wide on 67-8 cars. If you want to run a tire that wide you may have to keep the tire out of the wheelwell by jacking up the back of the car. IMO this is unsafe and looks kinda funny. Also, when going up driveways where one side of the suspension is fully compressed and the other extended you will need more room side-to-side for the tire to move.

Thanks for the come-back CarlC, I have L60-14 bias-ply tires (18 years old) on the back now on old Fenton "Slotted Mags". They are 14" x 9" w/ 3.75 backspace. I know the section width is right at 12" for this particular brand of tires, and they are "big". I've raised the back up with overload springs, (nothing out of the ordinary) which makes for what I consider a good "hot rod" rack. I want to run the modern equivalent in either 16" or 17" and am not too concerned with my car looking "jacked up" in the rear. I do, however want maximum width "foot-print" for straight line accelleration. I guess being a "child of the 60's has put me in a time warp.

I have a 67RS. I have ran 295/50/15 dunlop's on the rear with no problems. They were on the old hurricane style rims. They didnt rub. Ran the same tire on rally rims they rubbed. I'll have to dig the old rims up and measure the backspaceing for ya. The rear was lowerd 2 inches at the time too.

If you are planning to use a tire that large I would stay with a 15" rim. This is an "old school" look, the use of 16 or 17" rims would be awkward. If you are looking for acceleration a smaller soft compound tire would probably provide better traction than a 295 regular compound tire. If you just like the look go with whatever size you like the best. Good luck.
