golopogos Jan 29th, 01, 04:47 PM I'm not sure But the wheels youre talking about sound more like the 70 and later ss wheels. I believe that SS would have came out with ralleye rims . maybe I'm wrong . Any body have any Ideas?
jvolk81 Jan 29th, 01, 05:46 PM I think i have to agree with golopogos

68SSConvt Jan 30th, 01, 03:20 AM I'm not sure about this, but I think the basic SS wheel was a steel wheel with a special SS hubcap. The Rally wheel didn't come with the SS unless it had front disc. I read somewhere (I think) that the Rally wheel came with disc brake cars due to their better airflow for cooling than hubcaps, or something like that.
Again, I'm not certain about this but wanted to throw it out there.
I don't recognize the wheels Burney mentioned.

Joe B Jan 30th, 01, 03:51 AM If you are talking about the 14x7, 5 spoke "Road Wheels" that came on the 69 and 1970 Chevelle SS396's (and similar to the Magnum 500 road wheels used on Chrysler and Ford muscle cars)they were offered on the 69 Camaros also. The five spoke 15x7 so called "Trans Am" wheels came on the '70-81 Z28's, and where the standard wheels on the '71-72 Chevelle SS's. See link below if I'm helping out or just confusing everyone? http://www.newsales.com/wheels/vintage/muscle_car_wheels.htm
P.S. they were also available on the Super Sport Novas

Joe B Feb 1st, 01, 03:36 AM Hi Burney, they were painted. I also remember back in the early 70's seeing the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supremes sport coupes (but not on the 442's) with these road wheels also, but the centre caps had the Olds "JET" logo instead of the Chevrolet "SS". These are one of my favorite factory wheels and I plan on sporting them on my 68. Chrysler and Ford and even AMC had similar wheels and some were chromed centres but the GM one's were always painted. Maybe someone during the course of 30 some years of these wheels being out there had them chromed on there own?

spb350 Feb 15th, 01, 08:09 AM You might have Buick wheels? They are black and chrome.
William Feb 17th, 01, 10:42 AM Oldsmobile used a version of the Chevelle SS wheel but painted black with chromed spokes.
They looked great on a friends 3x black 1969 SS-RS many years ago.
Just for the record all 1969 SS had power front disc/rear drum brakes. Plain steel 14 x 7 wheels were standard, 14 x 7 Rally wheels optional. The N66 "Sport Wheels for Camaro SS" are shown in the showroom album, listed in the brochure but do not appear on any ordering or pricing info. Whether or not they really were optional remains unknown.
michaelm5 Jan 11th, 02, 05:36 AM This is an old topic but still thought I would add a clarification here. Suprised no other Camaro junkie added this info. In 69 Chevrolet offered the 5 spoke wheel as an interim step toward the new 70 1/2 model camaro. The original rallye was available for 69 and the 5 spoke was available when the 70 models were released. The 69 model was sold for part of the 70 model year with the 5 spoke wheel.
drdave69 Jan 11th, 02, 08:51 AM I agree with the previous post. I had a '69 SS back in the early 80's and it was all original except new paint. It also still had the original 'SS' wheels on it. The spokes weren't chrome and the paint was a dark grey/black.
