I own a 68 camaro with factory air. The evaporator "suitcase" sticks way out into the engine bay, and is always in the way, the compressor is a 35 lb monster. I want to remove the whole thing and go with heater only. There is a big difference between the factory air and factory heating only.

Anybody done this sort of conversion? Are there any aftermarket kits, websites, books?

Try here for a complete kit try here: www.vintageair.com (http://www.vintageair.com)

Do a search on this site. From the postings I have come across on this site I haven't seen any negative about their kits.

My 69 had air. It is heater only now.
The suitcase was cut down and fibreglassed over to make a flat mounting surface for the Hyfire and coil. If it's done right, it looks pretty good. You can sort of make it out in the pics in the signature.
I don't have dash vents anymore because all the vacuum stuff was removed too.
If all you want is heat and defrost, this worked for me.
No clearance problems under the hood!
The center vent was removed and a 3-gauge panel installed there.

Spitfire - I have looked at the vintage air, looks like quality stuff, costs like it too. Everything seems to come out about $1000. Too painful for me.

Joe G - Aaaaahhhh! the light comes on. I get it! Why didn't I think of that? Good job, Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
