Hey guys, heres the deal. I have a 79 Z28 sitting in my garage, i was just wondering what the biggest size of tire I can fit on the back without tubing, or doing any mods.
Any info would be appreciated

You can't really fit any wider tires in the back unless you cut the lip on the inside of the wheelwell and bend it up. This does hurt the value of the car however. I think you can go just a little bit wider than stock size but it's not much.

I have a 79 Trans Am that I stuffed BFG 295/50 15s under. I think the Camaro wheelwell has the same room. These tires were mounted on 15x8.5" Centerlines with 4.75" backspacing. The tires go to the outside of the car but do not protrude at all. On the inside, they rubbed only during hard cornering. A couple minutes with a hammer on the inner wheelwell should fix that.

With this tire I didnt have any interference with the inner lip, but the 255/60 15s I had before were getting cut up on the lip. Seems like even though the 255's were narrower, there was a problem due to the taller height.

If ya check www.nastyz28.com (http://www.nastyz28.com) there's been a discussion about this very recently, 10" Slicks with NO tubbing, mini or otherwise were the widest without mods... I know that 295/60/R15 with 4.5" of backspace will fit, I'm running 275/50/r15's with 3" of backspace (on American Racing slot wheels)... Of course you can also run 16" or 17" too... http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML/001085.html

I have 295/50/15 on the rear of mine with US Wheel 10" mags. They will only rub on top if I hit a hard bump in the road with no air at all in the shocks. With 30 lbs in each shock just to stiffen and not lift the rear end there is no interference at all even over rough pavement. I have the original equipment Z28 rear springs as well.
