My 69 Camaro has 235 60 15's on the front and rear. Everything fits fine which will be no surprise to anyone who has been following the posts on this topic.

I know the car didn't come with 235 60 R15's, but probably had 14" tires on it when new.

The different diameter of the 235 60 15's compared to the original 14" tires causes the speedometer to be off. I want to "calibrate" my speedometer to the 15" tires I am now running.

Does anyone know the diameter of the original 14" tires put on 69 Camaros?

Also, I know some 69 Camaros had the optional 15" tires. Mine could have had this option as well. So, does anyone know the diameter of the original '69 15" tires? What were the specs on the 14" and 14" tires?

Thanks.
Jim

Tires dimensions will vary even when labeled with the same size. In other words, 235 60/15 by different manufacturers, even different lines within the same brand, will vary in size. If you go to www.tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com) they have charts showing the diameter and revolutions/mile of most tires they sell. As to 14 or 15" tires being originally standard, I believe both were used depending on the engine. The base was 14" while some of the models with optional engines were given 15"

The cheapest way to get close is to have someone in a new car with a correct speedometer to drive along side of you. Have them drive at at predetermined speeds and note your speed. Figure out the percent differance and choose a new transmission driven gear accordingly.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies and advice. It sounds like the best way to "calibrate" my speedometer is to do it the way my dad did about 35 years ago when I was a kid... have someone drive alongside in a car with a known accurate speedometer and try not to have an accident while "communicating" back and forth. It was fun then... and should be fun now.

Thanks for posting the sites... I'll go out and check that information as well.
