After seeing the 68 Camaro in Feb 02 Hot Rod without inner fenders and various other cars also without them, what do you guys think about removing them? I would be taking them out to put in wider tires. I know they help keep the air out from under the hood and reduce front end body lift, but i just wanted to see if anyone else had done this. This car isn't daily driven so the road grime wouldn't be much of a problem.

The inner fenders are not required to operate the car. They are there to isolate the road grime and rain spray from the engine compartment. But the other problem is where to mount all the hardware that is currently bolted to them. Back in the 70's we used to remove the liners in order to allow us room to run fender well headers. The biggest problem was trying to keep the engine dry when we had to drive the cars in the rain. Ullimately, it proved to be more trouble than it was worth and eventually the fender liners went back in. One other thing to consider before removing the liners, is that when a tire kicks up a stone, it will most likely dimple your fender or hood or both.

The inners contribute allot to the overall rigidity of the front end. Hence the "shakey" fenders when none are installed.
