Does anyone have any suggestions on a tire size that will fit an 8" Vette Ralley wheel that I'm thinking about putting on my '69 Z28? If there are different off sets on this type of wheel, then I'm not sure what it is on these I have. Is there a way to check mine to find out? I've been told a couple of sizes that will fit the 8" wheel are the 215-65-15 and 225-60-15. I'm just trying to avoid a rubbing problem. Thanks, Donnie...

I'm running 15x8s with 0 offset and 265 50 15 BFGs they are 10.9 inches wide and just hit. I would recommend staying with a tire about 10.2 inches wide. then it really should not matter how tall it is. The BFG site has a good spec section.

i have 245/60 on 15x8's in back. Not the corvette 15x8 (which has a 4" offset), but the repro 15x8 that is made with 4.5" backspace. This will give you the proper offset so they don't rub. Most corvette wheels will rub. Hope this helps,

mr69, First of all you have a very nice car. I think I emailed you once awhile back after I saw your car somewhere on the Internet. If I'm correct it seems like you had p/w and some other good options on your car. Do you have the same size wheels and tires all the way around? I couldn't really tell. Is there a way I can tell what the offset is on my 15x8 wheels? I'm just trying to get that "beefy" look without the rubbing. Thanks, Donnie...

69DZ:
you can measure the offset by using a measuring tape from the back side- where the lugs come thru to the upper lip. Should measure 4" or so.

In front I am using 15x7 with a 4.5" backspace (4 will work also) and 235/60's.

mr69, I measured the offset on my 8" wheels and they measured 4". I don't know what the offset is on the 7" wheels I have on my car now. I guess you have two different size beauty rings since you have 7" on the front and 8" on the back? Do you notice much of a difference when you look at the wheels since there's not that much different in the tire sizes? Is the 60 the height of the tire and the 235 the width or do I have it backwards? Thanks for the help, Donnie...

You have it backwards. 235 would be the height and 60 is the width. The width (60) is the percentage or aspect ratio of the height (235). Something like that. I think thats right, not completely sure. If I'm wrong someone will correct.

235 is the section width, or width of the tire in milimeters. The 60 refers to the sidewall size. It's 60% or the section width of the tire.

Your current 15x7's, if they're GM type rims stamped YH (factory '69 Z rims) or FW (later Monte Carlo-type, same specs) have a backspacing of 4.25". Your 8" rims (probably GM Corvette wheels stamped AZ) with 4" backspacing will almost always have interference with wheel lips on early Camaros with sizes greater than 235/60/15. Unfortunately, sizes narrower than this tend to look funny on the wide rims. Mr'69 has probably the ideal setup, custom 7's and 8's with 4.5" backspacing. He probably uses the same trim rings all around-they likely fit up tight against the center in front, and have close to an inch clearance in the back. Still looks way better than running Vette rings in the back, with their totally different "rounded" edge shape.
