Would 255/40 on a 17x9 rim fit up front on a second gen camaro? I know that the hotchkiss camaro has 275's but my dad wants to 255's front and rear and i want them on a 9in wide rim just in case I ever bump up the tire sizes. Does anyone happen to know where to get 17x9 rims for a decent price that look descent?
Thanks

I'm not sure what will fit your car. But most of the wheels I see are 9.5" wide.

I posted this earlier and there is a whole bunch more of this b/c it has been beat to death if you want to do a search!!!
"I second the X" x 7" rims w/ 4.5" BS for the front. Just remember to add needed extra BS for your rotor thickness or offset that is different then stock.
I figure I need 17" x 7" w/ 5.25" BS for my 13" CBB conversion because the rotor adds about an extra .25" and I need .5" more for caliper clearance.
As for the rear, consider X" x 9" w/ 4.5" BS. Should fit fine. pdq67"
I settled on "Bullitt" Mustang wheels, (by redrilling everything to the Ford bolt pattern and 1/2 studs), 17" x 8" w/ 5.72" bs with 225/45-17's in front and 255/45-17's on the rear b/c I really didn't want to chance any rubbing at all.
I figure that I will use 1/2" spacers along with the 1/4" disc thickness on the front to get close to the needed fit in front as well as will fit the rear and double check there b/c the 1/4" rotor thickness puts me at 5.47" bs and guys are running 17" wheels at that.
My old wheels and tires were Fenton Slotted Mag's, 14" x 7" w/ 3.75" bs and E/60-14's front and 14" x 9" w/ 3.75" bs and Big L/60-14's on the rear.
I had to use coil shock overload springs to raise my rear to fit but was fine with me.
My L/60 is like a 298/53-14 modern tire at 26.5" in diameter if they made such an animal! So go figure! Hope this helps. pdq67
Ps., The bullitt wheels run $150/each from Summit and to me they are just what I wanted and I don't care if they are a Ford wheel!!!

Smitty I have 16x8 with 255-55-16 all the way
around on my '78. While making tight turns sometimes I get a little rubbing on the drivers side front tire. Back-spacing is 4.5
I believe. Using a tire height calculator I get 27'' for my combo and 25'' for the 255-40-17 set-up. So unless you have the car lowered(or it's suspension is saging) the 25'' tires might not fill the wheel well and well that don't do much for looks. In fact I tried some 17'' 40's on my car and it looked
stupid. My suspension has been redone so it does not sit very low.
