I'm trying to find out the maximum size tire I can fit under my 67'. I was told that you can fit bigger on 67' than any other first gen. Also is there an advantage to larger on back than front? If so any recomendations? And I'm looking at getting new rims, are american racing rims any good, or are rims a non-factor? Thanks in advance

The largest tire size that can be fitted on a first generation camaro with no wheel well mods is 275/40/17 on the rear and 255/40/17 on the front. I only know of one guy that's running the 255's on the front, he's MarkM on on this site and I don't know if they rub but I'm pretty sure that they do. The rears have a chance at not rubbing at all but on some awkward bumps they probably still will. I'm ordering 17x8's with 5 inch backspacing(drum brakes but will eventually have disks) for the front and 17x9.5's for the rear with 5.5 inch backspacing(same brake combo as the front). I'll be using a 275/40/17 tire on the rear and a 245/40/17 on the front. My car is stock height as of right now but I'm going to be buying some hotchkis coils and leafs and cutting the coils a half coil. They might rub a little at full lock but as long as they don't rub when I'm going through the twisties, I don't care.
Oh yeah, the largest rims/tires fit on 69 camaro's because of the shape of their wheel well's. The 67/68's are the exact same and it's a little less room than a 69.
