I want to buy a set of rally wheels with the rings and center caps. I'm also going to change the color of the car eventually. Shound the wheels be painted the same color as the car? I would think so but I'm not that familiar with them.

IMO, my friends Burgundy 67 use to have it color keyed, now it have them in original Rally color and the car looks a lot better. It maybe depends on the car's color but i prefer them silver gray.

Is that the original or correct color? I didn't realize that. A set of them that I'm thinking about buying are that color now.
My 68 is ash gold which looks pea green to me but I want to change the car to Kelly Green I think it's called.

The wheels were first painted black all over (probably dipped). The wheels were hung from the valve stem hole and conveyered into a paint booth where they were sprayed with either silver or greenish tint silver paint (depending on the year of the car) on the outside face only. The wheels were not masked off so overspray is expected on the backside from paint blowing through the holes. This is for a correct restoration. Most of the time I see all silver "restored" wheels, even on $$$ cars.

I got really good results by having the wheels media blasted and then powder coated. We first coated them flat black and then silver on the face. Luckily, I had an original paint wheel to match the silver with. If you like, I still have a sample of the silver powder coat if you need the code. Total cost was about $75 a wheel but they are better than new now.
