i have a problem with my quadrajet. When i start it up, it works fine at iddle, but as soon as i give it gas, it spits, and blows a lot of gas mixture out the top of the car for a second, then the r's drop and it revs normal, this happens when i go to step on it too. I'm thinking it's the choke. Any ideas?

Sounds like timing...if it's off enough, it CAN idle fine. Then as soon as you give it power it starts to "backfire" or back flow...

Look inside the carbeurator with the engine off and pull the throttle lever back. If you see a good solid stream of gas your accelerator pump is OK, but chances are the accelerator pump has died. If the pump isn't working the mixture becomes very lean when you hit the gas and the engine spits back out the carb. Timing just doesn't change itself, so unless you or someone else has messed with it, chances are quite remote that timing is your problem.
