I checked a couple sites and only had partial luck. The engine with these numbers is supposedly a 427 made with 454 and 396 parts.
I got these numbers from my brother in law who just bought this motor
The block casting is 3999280 with E31.72
The numbers on the front pad and messed up and unreadable
The heads have 3873858 with E266 which I found to be 65-67 rect port closed chamber on 396 and 427
Can anyone tell me anything about these such as if they are good heads or not?
The intake is a GM unit with a casting of
3885069 which I can't find
Can anyone tell me the usage?

I'm "half fast", but here goes. Block number 3999280 is most likely 3999290. It is a '72 402, 2-bolt, 240 hp block. E3172 means May 31,1972. You nailed the heads. 375hp (L-78) 396. The intake is 375hp(L-78) 396 or 425hp (L-72) 427. The E266 means May 2,1966. Hope this was fast enough. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
