I bought some 15" rally wheels for my 69 with Goodyear eagles (p225 70R15) and I like the way they look but there is a clearance problem in front. When the steering wheel is turned sharp, the tire rubs the frame.

I know this also relates the the profile of the tire but there seems to be enough room on the fender side. Did the stock rally wheels come with different dish depths?

If I have to change the front tires so be it but I was wondering if the rally wheels were available in varied dish depths or if wheel spacers might be a way to go.

Any suggestions?

Do you mean they are rubbing with the car jacked up?

Mine did that but once on the ground they are fine although I am running a lower profile tire. 225/60 R 15 on 15 x 7 ralley wheels on a 69'.

You may have to go with a lower profile. I choose this size because it is very close to the original diameter of the 14" tires (stock) size so the speedometer would be close.

As for the wheels go there should be a two letter code around the valve stem hole and search under the wheels/tires section you will find a bunch of info. I think the code has to do with the date/model of car though.

The wheel rubs when I crank the steering wheel all the way when the car is on the ground.

How can I determine what height of tire I need? Is there a chart somewhere showing tire height per the numbers on the tire and how should this be measured on the car to make sure I get the right size?

I would question the offset of the rims. My 15s never hit the 69 ragtops frame and I have 235s!

Do you have the standard rally rims on your 69?

Is it a good or bad idea to use wheel spacers? There appears to be enough room between the tire & the fender so I am not too concerned about room if I use wheel spacers, I am just not sure how safe they are or how they may affect handling.
Any feedback on that?

Japper, Check under the wheels / tire section. I posted a link yesterday for a tire conversion chart which is what I used to determine my tire sizes.

The rims I have on mine are rally wheels. Take a peek.

Yeah, what Steve said. Check the backspacing on those rims. That 225/70 is a pretty tall tire, somewhere around 27" - 27.5" tall.
