Several different issues here.....I suspect they are all three somewhat related..
1. What are the largest size tire you can use on a 1969? I recently bought a 69 that has 275/50/15's on Weld Drag Lites and have noticed that there is some rubbing on the inner fender. Most of the rubbing occurs while turning corners.
2. What is the optimal height the from floor to wheel well edge for a 1969. I replaced the multi-leaf springs and I've noticed that the height fluctuates, why? I don't know. It's generally around 26" - 26.50" on the passenger side. Drivers side is always higher than passenger side and fluctates very little. Any insight on this?
3. When I replaced the leaf springs, I also replaced the leaking air shocks with gas charged shocks. Could this have anything to do with the ride height? I notice that sometimes when I hit a bump the wheels hit the outer fender edge...making an alarmingly loud noise and has gouged the tires a little. I didn't buy Heavy Duty shocks as I was told these would work. I planned on getting new over the winter and wanted a temporary fix to get me through the summer.
Are all three of these issues related? Are the shocks too weak, allowing the body to sag, thus the rubbing issues? I've seen in magazines other 69's using 275's with no noticeable mods and assume they have no issues like mine.
Any advice is appreciated.
