Well I'm getting ready to order my 18 inch rims for my '69 (4 wheel BAER brakes) and I wanted to get some final feedback on the backspacing. I've researched just about every post I can find here and on Pro-touring.com....

There seems to be alot of different info out there, but this seems to be the most common...

Front: 18x8 with 4.75 BS, 245-40-18

Rear: 18x9 with 5.0 BS 275-40-18

With the fronts I've also seen 5.25 and 5.5, and with the rears I've seen 5.5 too ( often with a 9.5 inch rim)

So... any last opinions out there before I order them ??? Don't worry, I wont hold you responsible !!!!!!

I wish I had the $$ to get the wheel fit too that Percy sells.......

The wheels I'm ordering can have any custom BS and I did roll the outer fender lip.

no guess on if they'll fit or not.... but how about a plywood or cardboard cutout of the overall tire/wheel combo?.... worth a shot?

I have 5.5" in the back with my 18X9 wheels and they are deadnuts centered. I have 255/45-18 tires, but I would not go with only 5" in back, especially due to the fact that the Baers will push the wheel out another 1/4 inch. 5.5" and you will be golden....

Anyone else have some advice for me ???

I'd get the front with 5.0" bs, and get 5.5" bs in the rear. I'm running a 9.5" wheel in the rear (17" wheel, same principle though) with 5.5" bs, but I wish I could run more to get the tire away from the fender more so I could go a little lower without having to worry about rubbing.

So even though its a 9 inch rim rather than the more commom 9.5 inch, I should still get the rears with 5.5 BS ........ ????

I'm confused......

On a 9.5 inch with 5.5 BS the offset would be 4 inches.

In ordet to get 4 inch offset with a 9 inch rim, wouldnt the BS be 5 inches ????

By offset, I mean the opposite of BS..... the distance from the mounting surface to the outside edge of the rim, not the mounting surface to inside edge of rim=backspacing.

Ummm, yeah.

Why concern yourself with offset? You can properly fit your tires and wheels by just using backspacing.

I still suggest 5.5" bs, I think it will look better then 5" bs and give more tire to fender clearace. Or don't, it's your car and your money.

The reason I was aking is that I want to balance the chance of it rubbing the outer edge of the fender vs. rubbing on the inside of the fenderwell by the shocks etc.

Too much BS and it hits near the shocks, too little and it hits the edge of the fender lip.......

I probably will go with the 5.5... experience by other people is more reliable than doing calculations and theories in your head. I also figure, with spacers I can always decrease the BS alittle, but I can't increase it. So I guess I would be better off with too much, because thats easier to remedy.

DRJDVM It's a good idea to error on the high side so you can use a spacer as you indicated, But it is better to be sure. Have the shop that you are buying your rims from get you a rim that you can try even if they have to use a spacer to give you the same BS. Remeber you are about to give them a lot of your money, let them earn it and be sure!

I really don't think you'll have and rubbing issues with 5.5" bs. I agree, it's always better to have a little to much bs, because you can always run a small spacer. But I don't think you'll need to, http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif .
