My '67 is driven very infrequently and may sit for two weeks or more. When I start out I can feel flat spotting and shimmy in the front tires for about a mile until they get rounded out. They are Goodrich tires but are several years old. Don't notice this problem on the rears. I don't want to go to trouble of putting it on jack stands every time I set it up. What's the solution? New tires? Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you drive at high speeds.

That is very common on large trucks that run bias ply tires even with new tires. Most of them have gone to radials also.

You didn't state if they were radials or bias ply tires.

These are radial BFG's and they are probably close to ten years old but don't have many miles. Were computer spin balanced and front end has been aligned since then. My steering wheel goes back and forth when I first start out even at low speed like the tread is crooked. Didn't do this when new. It may all the setting up without being driven plus the age. They still look like new tires.

Well I just put the same tires on my car a few months ago. 235/60 R15 front and 255/60 R 15 on the rear. BFG T/A's with the raised white letters. Can't say I have done much driving with it but here shortly I will be once I finish the exhaust and overhaul the tranny. I haven't noticed any flat spotting since putting these tires on and the car sits for weeks between drives.
BFG was bought out by Michelin some time back so it's possible the technology has changed from ten years ago. I know a lot of people are running the BFG T/A's because it is one of the few tires you can get with raised white letters and looks decent and isn't a "special order" tire.

Drew, you have a good point there. I'm sure the technology has improved a lot since I bought those tires and some of the problems we had have been eliminated.
